A passenger on an August 5th Delta flight from Akron, Ohio to Orlando was apparently kicked off simply because she looked sick.
Suzanne Hays, 72, says that during flight change in Detroit, she was asked not to get back on the plane after a passenger next to her reported to a flight attendant that she looked tired and drowsy, First Coast News reports.
Hays began crying, but it wasn’t enough to convince the flight staff.

And Denilfloss died after contracting a disease while sitting next to a woman on an airplane that was sick.

Sometimes the airlines have to be unfair to individuals in order to be fair to a plane load of people.

I thought this is common knowledge - where have you been hiding?

I prefer Delta over United. Unfortunately I'm flying United-Lufthansa (not looking forward to it) next month, assuming that volcano in Iceland doesn't blow its top.

wait what???

I don't think it was ever 100% confirmed, but he had mentioned he had gotten sick after taking a flight shortly before his death. He did have some existing health problems though IIRC.

I expect more of this to go down in the coming months as people are getting freaked out about Ebola.

And as a former Delta employee, I have to say that have come back in a major way as of late. The best of the mainline carries for sure. Great airline and no one situation like this will tarnish it really. They took the action they believed to be safest for the flight.

I don't mind if sick people get kicked off of airplanes, and families with babies that don't stop yelling or crying.

Most airlines will have rules against letting someone visibly sick or intoxicated stay on the plane and you can find examples on all the major carriers of this happening. Personally I prefer the airlines make the attempt to keep their flying petri dishes as free from illness as possible

Delta's Contract of Carriage:
Delta may refuse to transport any passenger, and may remove any passenger from its aircraft at any time, for any of the following reasons:
-When the passenger appears to be intoxicated or under the influence of drugs.
-When the passenger has a contagious disease that may be transmissible to other passengers during the normal course of the flight;
-When the passenger is seriously ill, and fails to provide a physician's written permission to fly
http://www.delta.com/content/dam/delta-www/pdfs/legal/contract_of_carriage_dom.pdf

Reading the article she does have a disease so having a doctors note saying she is safe to fly would have prevented this issue.

And as a side note Delta is hardly the worst airline. In fact I find them to be the most competent domestic airline if not overly fare and frequent flier friendly.

I live in SLC and Delta has a hub there so I get the most flight options with Delta. I've flown plenty of other airlines and they all have problems but I think Delta is one of the best. That may not be saying much but it is better than most...

Delta is hardly the worst airline ever. They've improved greatly in the past few years. I have no real problem with what they did...I had a flight last year where the person next to me was hacking up a lung and I of course came down with the same thing later. Wish AA had kicked him off the plane too.

Delta is waaay better than United.

I have to admire United's amazing ability to make every single line employee uniformly surly and unhelpful while ass raping it's passengers (especially elites) at every turn.

Eh. Flying is generally unpleasant. I've flown on United and Delta this past year and both were pretty unremarkable. They weren't bad and they weren't fantastic. Next up is USAirways (but it's an American flight, and they're really one airline now anyway). As long as I'm not paying extra for carry-on and I'm not sitting on a wooden bench.
