Google the CFPB.

Ohh, you mean that unconstitutional organization funded under the Fed with no congressional oversight, no way of curbing its power, and no way to appeal its investigations?

Yeah, that's not authoritarian at all.

Disparate impact is a fucking disaster.

They paid a lot of money for it after all.

Hordes of industry executives will descend on the city to celebrate Hillary Clinton’s nomination for president and renew close associations that vexed the Democratic standard-bearer throughout her primary battle with Bernie Sanders.

Goldman Sachs, which paid Clinton millions for private speeches, will be well represented in Philadelphia with executives Jake Siewert, a former Bill Clinton press secretary, making the trip along with Steven Barg, Michael Paese, Joyce Brayboy and Jennifer Scully, who was a major fundraiser for Bill Clinton in New York in 1992.

Blackstone, one of the nation’s largest private equity firms, will hold an official reception in Philadelphia on Thursday featuring its president, Tony James, sometimes mentioned as a possible Treasury secretary in a Clinton administration.

Hedge fund managers and top Democratic donors including Avenue Capital’s Marc Lasry and Boston Provident’s Orin Kramer will also be on the scene, as will Morgan Stanley executive and former top Clinton aide Tom Nides. Executives from Citigroup, JPMorgan Chase and other large banks will also prowl the streets and barrooms of Philadelphia.

Or how about

Amusing to contrast Cruz vs. Sanders. Things went about as well as the DNC could have hoped all things considered - the Bernie supporters had a chance to vent with no harm done and it felt like by the end of the night general acceptance had settled on the crowd.

Highlight of the night certainly was the First Lady.

I'd so love to see Warren run for President in 2020 or 2024.

I have yet to see Warren actually do anything beyond talk and have folks like you cream their pants over what she says.

She was the driving force behind the CFPB. And when Republicans stalled her nomination to lead it, she decided to run for Senate to get around that bit of obstructionism. And won. That's pretty badass.

Seriously, put all of this "oh she lied about how native she is" nonsense aside and look at her positions; there's a lot to like.

Yeah, the utterly retarded position of "free education for all" is a lot to like.

Wow, I thought Corey Booker hit a home run, but Michelle Obama is knocking it clean out of the park.

The difference in tone and class (and substance) between these two party's conventions has never been more stark.

Yep, it's the adults vs. the uneducated, low information, petulant children. It's no different here... It's going to be a slaughter...

I know, it'd cost like a whole 10% of your annual defence budget to make sure every young person who qualifies for university can attend it. Utter crazy talk.

What a stark difference between the RNC and DNC.

Where is the fear? Hate mongering? Uncertainty? Doubt? Knee jerking? Hyperbole? FEELINGS!!!!!!!!!

Still waiting for someone to pinpoint when America stopped being great...

Free education for those who qualify for it is a brilliant position - it's the position many nations attempting to move forward are using. Why don't you look at the correlation between how well a nation is doing, and the level of education of its citizens.

Do you get paid to make these posts?

lol - do you even know what you're talking about?

Direct Loans increase by ~100-150bn a year with the loan maximums capped at a pretty low rate that is becoming a smaller % of total tuition paid.

1. If we increased it to *all* tuition paid, tuition costs would raise.

2. If the covered amount is ~30% of current costs (ballpark) then that would place it at 300-450bn/yr in cost.

Damn, just watched Michelle Obama's speech. I suspect the female turnout for this election is going to be very strong.

I am all for restructuring the US education system to qualify students, similar to most modern countries, so that we stop wasting money on idiotic LibArts degrees.

You know my IP addresses, do they look like they come from the RNC or DNC?

You could at least try to come up with a less ridiculous figure if you're going to bullshit the lot of us.

Whoa! We've reached common ground. I agree, to an extent. We still need majors in many of the libarts areas; but perhaps there could be some sort of quota system whereby we don't wind up with everyone going for the easiest major, since it's free. That is, "sorry, we've used up our psychology degree grants. We've got a few grants left for electrical engineers, and your high school grades qualify you..." And, set realistic numbers - I.e., take into account that some of the students will fail out, etc.

Also, if you look at the reason that education costs are increasing the way they have; perhaps something could be done to correct it. Hint: the extra money isn't going to professors, and the number of students per professor isn't going down. In fact, there is more and more use of adjunct professors, rather than tenured professors at many schools. But, administration costs at colleges? Whoa.

Here's an idea (just tossing something out) - cap the percentage of tuition money that can be used for administration versus direct instructional costs versus other costs. Include in instructional costs the costs for classroom materials (such as scientific equipment, etc.) It would have to be rolled out gradually of course, but without a school meeting certain criteria, students at the school wouldn't be eligible for government backed tuition reimbursement. That still allows private schools to go their own way, if they wish.

This just proves you have no fucking idea what you're talking about.

You've been a very angry person around here lately and it's actually kind of unnerving for those of us who remember you definitely being excitable but hardly sounding deranged. I'm as atheist as they come but I do believe in putting out positive energy into the world - or at least declining to put out negativity - and I'd be genuinely concerned about my mental state if I was writing as angrily as you seem to be. Seriously, think about taking a break. Plenty of time to come back and post before the actual election.

Slightly more on topic, I welcome some references for your numbers - they appear to be 3x - 4x higher than what I've seen in multiple places. But try not to be such an asshole about it.
