Also, there's a bit of a paradox that gets pointed out now and then when this is brought up- there's no guarantee it will REMAIN a desireable country to live in if we just throw out every other law we have simply because someone else can come in and change it into whatever they want.

Maybe the French like their country AS IT IS and think it's pretty great. So is it a great thing if other people just flock there unchecked and make it into something else, even if the French are dumb enough to allow that?

Immigrant decision tree with when they have kids:

1) Stay here (wherever here is) and suffer as a family
2) Migrate as a family and pray
3) Send off kid by themselves and pray

1 is usually never preferred because the country is complete shit (or else why would they want to leave in the first place?), 2 is preferred if the family has money, 3 is picked if the family doesn't have money - because you send the one with the best hope of making it.

Of course, this is a different immigration issue than the anchor baby issue above.

Hence the criticism around anchor babies. A child born in this country is an American citizen, and it is in inhumane to separate children from their parents. However, there are numerous peoples and cultures around the world that would gladly benefit from gaining access to the American dream, but there is a process for them to do so and most don't have the luxury of crossing a border.
