Which ignores the oppression of people's freedoms inspired by religious ideology, demonizing certain groups and attacks on democracy that also come from Trump's regime and his fanatics. You also resort to hyperbole with nonsense like 'socialist state' to refer to countries in Europe. These are functioning democracies that make use of programs funded via taxes, like all developed nations do. America has a ton of huge social programs - see the military, America's most expensive socialist program. Other developed nations simply prioritize different programs as having more value - such as health care.

Try out the Rand utopia where everything is privatized and the free market rules. There are examples to be found of this approach and they result in disaster.

So you consider our military an example of a social program? That's very enlightening. This is why I show up her on liberal sights. I get lines like this one that will make me a hit at cocktail parties. I can't make this kind of stuff up. I'm interested in how the left thinks and this explains a lot.

Funding the military and protecting our borders are well spelled out in the Constitution. They've been a part of our Republic from the beginning. Whereas one of our FF's, James Madison said the following:

“I cannot undertake to lay my finger on that article of the Constitution which granted a right to Congress of expending, on objects of benevolence, the money of their constituents.”

The military is not an object of benevolence? I wonder what Grog would have thought about that, having to defend his cave by himself and, perhaps later, trying to convince the other nearby Granite tribe to work together for some unknown reason to defend each other, despite the unusual and completely novel proclivity to look out for those other than one's self and their "family"

That may have been their intention, but it has been perverted by government over the years, Ike warned us about it in his farewell speech.

I have my own saying for this. If everyone could be Howard Roark, then Ayn Rand would be right. If the state could be God, then Karl Marx would be right. Neither are true, of course.
I just want to go on record saying this was well thought out, cogently expressed, and undeniable, as well as being so simply expressed that I weep for an America where apparently a significant portion of people (and not just dumb people or people uninterested in politics and sociology) find it difficult to parse out. Well said, and for Christ's sake let us please start teaching political science honestly and objectively in middle school so that people have the background to understand your statement.

Have you ever spent any time in the military? It is absolutely a vehicle for retraining and reintegrating people who are at risk of falling out of the workforce.

It's hard for me to imagine anyone who has any actual military experience disputing that, but then again people often like to bullshit at cocktail parties.

How is a country's military not a social program? It is a government run program, funded by tax dollars, that provides a service to the country's populace - while also providing employment with remuneration at the taxpayer's expense. To make this analogous to a country with universal healthcare; it provides a health service to a country's populace - while providing employment with remuneration at the taxpayer's expense.

In fact, the military is more government controlled than the health care scenario, because it is under direct government control. Whereas universal healthcare is taxpayer funded, but its implementation is under the control of independent health care providers.

This isn't difficult. You can consult a dictionary and other online resources to understand what socialism means.

Besides... red states voting red... shock! amazement!

I was gonna say that. Kansas, Montana, Georgia, South Carolina are all heavily red states. The fact that it was so close is kind of a good effort, although spending that kind of money to try and win a red state to show political points is shady... Whatever. Trump is still a habitual liar, who surrounds himself with lairs and traitors and the FBI is on their asses.

Ah excellent.

In that case lets have the Federal government make every American of all ages a part of the armed forces and they can get the benefits that all members of the armed forces get.

The cost for this will be insane of course, but what true American will complain about 75% tax rates when they know they will just be performing their Constitutional duty? All permitted under our constitution.

It wont be a social program and you can still be a hit at cocktail parties. Yay 0% unemployment!

Because this is America and not Germany. I know the goal of the far left is to turn us into Germany but they don't understand that Americans don't long to be European. We fought that war 200+ yrs ago and many more of us fled Europe since then. That DNA is still in us today.

God Bless America.

There's no mystery why racists pieces of shit prefer the american/woolfe/buckshot/zimfamous solution post civil war to the german solution post ww2: http://www.portvapes.co.uk/?id=Latest-exam-1Z0-876-Dumps&exid=thread...become-available.2509348/page-3#post-38951813

Geez only in America is having an ID white privilege.
Only in America can a politician say he wants to build a vertical wall to keep out immigrants on the southern border of the entire united states and have it made up entirely of solar panels so as to reduce the cost the Mexicans will have to contribute to the price of the wall. And only in America do his supporters cheer wildly for this idea.

Benjamin Franklin said this-

"All the Property that is necessary to a man, for the conservation of the individual and the propagation of the species, is his natural right, which none can justly deprive him of: But all property superfluous to such purposes is the property of the publick, who, by their laws, have created it, and who may therefore by other laws dispose of it, whenever the welfare of the publick shall demand such disposition. He that does not like civil society on these terms, let him retire and live among savages."

I would agree that it does this for many people, but to claim that the Military is a Social Program would be quite a stretch.

Social programs in the United States are welfare subsidies designed to aid the needs of the American population. Federal and state welfare programs include cash assistance, healthcare and medical provisions, food assistance, housing subsidies, energy and utilities subsidies, education and childcare assistance, and subsidies and assistance for other basic services. Private provisions from employers, either mandated by policy or voluntary, also provide similar social welfare benefits.

Yes I have spent time in the military, but only a little better than 20 years.

Your point?

You appealed to the authority of Madison. I did the same with Franklin, whose opinion was obviously different. You can't stand on the supposed moral high ground of "what the Founders intended" when they were of different minds.

I don't think they were in conflict at all. Where did Ben Franklin say that income redistribution was constitutional?

Here's a good Ben Franklin quote on the matter:

“When the people find that they can vote themselves money, that will herald the end of the republic.”
