Yes, some companies are in fact reducing hours. In no way does that mean that 'part time employment is surging', as shown by the data. The guy was full of shit.

Are you referring to another post or poster in the thread? Because I don't see where the two links I provided make the claim that "part time employment is surging." The Forbes link you re-quoted only mentions part-timers in the sense that it's one of several options presented as a possible means to minimize Obamacare costs but makes no prediction about it leading to hours being reduced. A laundry list item isn't the same as a forecast.

From your link here: http://www.forbes.com/sites/johngoo...ployers-do-to-reduce-the-cost-of-obamacare-2/

Use Part-Time Labor. Even if the mandate applies, the employer does not have to offer insurance to employees who work fewer than 30 hours a week. That’s one reason why part-time jobs are soaring while full-time employment is stagnating.

The guy is clueless.

If you don't have insurance you pay the penalty, and the size of the penalty is increasing every year. You the individual pay the penalty. If you have children the penalty is even larger now if you are on welfare you and your boyfriend pay two penalties if you are not married.

Then if your income increases and you are receiving subsidies, you could be told you have to return some or all of the subsidies. Imagine a $1k+ bill for overpaid subsidies. Imagine that hurting the poor.

This is being caused by how the law is written the subsidies are based on income you have not received. If you get a job or receive a promotion, it is on the individual to report this and then estimate the new income level and adjust the subsidies and then pay even more for your insurance unless your employer provides insurance.

ACA does nothing to hurt corporate America
(Bloomberg) -- The biggest entitlement legislation in a generation is causing barely a ripple in corporate America.
The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act -- otherwise known as Obamacare -- is putting such a small dent in the profits of U.S. companies that many refer to its impact as “not material” or “not significant,” according to a Bloomberg review of conference-call transcripts and interviews with major U.S. employers.

That’s even after a provision went into effect this year requiring companies with 50 or more full-time workers to provide coverage, and after more workers are choosing to enroll in existing company coverage because of another requirement that all Americans get insured.

“It’s just part of doing business,” said Bob Shearer, chief financial officer of VF Corp., which owns the North Face and Vans apparel brands. “Obamacare has added costs, but not so much that we felt we had to talk about it specifically.”
The collective shrug from the nation’s biggest employers undermines the arguments of Republicans, who call the law a job-killer as they seek its repeal.

While U.S. health-care costs continued to rise faster than inflation in the five years since the law was passed, their rate of growth has slowed. Employers spent an average of $11,204 per worker for health benefits in 2014, up 4.6 percent from a year earlier, according to Mercer LLC. That growth rate was 6.1 percent or more each year from 1998 to 2011.

I'll reiterate this point for the poor confused souls out there still carrying water for Repubs on healthcare policy; literally 4 years of Republican House control has yielded nary a healthcare bill even getting out of committee let alone a full floor vote (which at least would show they have ideas). Frankly, the ideas they do have don't actually cover people or is ACA-light as seen in the Senate framework released by Hatch and company ~1 week ago.

This is the textbook definition of a party that doesn't particularly care about serious healthcare reform, be it for reasons ranging from the ideological to a rabid foaming-at-the-mouth base, or any of a number of explanations, all leading to the same inevitable conclusion that these turds got nothing.
