By a nearly 2-1 ratio, Democrats in the poll now said they would rather Obama "stand up" and "fight" Republicans rather than compromise, even at the expense of solving problems.

Not surprising that what's best for the country isn't as important to Democrats as forcing their own political beliefs on others.

Obama has already proven himself to be worse than Bush, and now Democrats want him to be even worse than he was before.

Not even close. Truth be known, he, Obama, is worse than Carter......and I didn't think that was even possible, but he managed it. That's about the only thing Obama has managed.

Like Al Quaeda, the Republican Taliban party is a threat to America and need to be taken out by drone attack. It's payback time. You don't compromise with the insane who want to destroy you, you destroy them. The insane will call this unfair because it's using their plan against them. They will cry that somebody would challenge their attempt to make the whole country mentally sick. But when you have an enemy that wants to destroy your country you destroy them without mercy or compromise, right up to the point where they return to their senses. Then you can back off and talk. The Republicans have shown their true face, backward, fanatically religiously driven, anti-science, irrational and destructive monsters.

Republicans are big on personal responsibility, when it applies to somebody else. Time for it to bite THEM in the ass. Now watch this:

Only a rabid Rightie could get that out of the article. It's Repubs who have inspired Dems' harder line through their own non-compromise-

Voters' concede-nothing mentality has been colored by the summer's protracted fight in Washington over raising the federal debt ceiling, said Dan Schnur, director of the Jesse M. Unruh Institute of Politics at USC and a former GOP strategist.

Obama had sought a "grand bargain" to raise taxes and trim entitlements in exchange for lifting the borrowing limit. Republicans in Congress refused to contemplate taxes and threatened a federal default unless deep spending cuts alone were adopted. Obama and the Democrats ultimately acquiesced.

"The lesson that Republicans learned in the fight over the debt limit is it pays not to compromise," Schnur said. "It appears the Democrats have learned exactly the same lesson."

It's more than a bit dishonest, if unsurprising, that the party of No! should don the mantle of victimhood when confronted with their own tactics from the opposition.

Corrected:\

My guess is that you lean to the right and are discomforted by the obvious fact that Republicans, at this time and at this place, are far more guilty of not compromising than Democrats are. There has to be some motive for your obvious blindness and it's usually one's ego.

My guess is that you are too stupid to recognize obvious when you see it, too stupid, of course by design. Most folk would be embarrassed to admit to such a profound lack of discernment.

Honestly it seems like all Obama has done is compromise. It has earned him absolutely no goodwill from Republicans, and it has alienated his base.

I really don't get why people want the federal government to over extend itself.

That is the reason why we are having all of these problems.
The federal government is trying to homogenize all of the states.
That isn't what American was designed for.

Not sure why anyone on either side of the isle would want the federal government homogenizing the states but sadly we have a lot in D.C.

Democrats: I want to spend unlimited money, unlimited deficits
Republicans: I want a balanced budget
Compromise: Somewhere in between, still spend money you don't have, medium deficits to perpetuity

Repubs have compromised on what, exactly?

HCR?
Patriot Act?
Gitmo?
Financial Regs?
Bush tax cuts?
Debt ceiling?
Nominees?

Exactly when & how have they compromised?

Homogenize the states, Patranus? Maybe we should send Mississippi the same return on their federal taxes as New Jersey, $.65/dollar, instead of the $2.00 they currently get, let them return to the delta ooze from which they emerged. I doubt they'd be any less backward & ignorant as a result.

What problems has compromise solved? Compromised on single payer, got Obamacare. Compromised on stimulus, got second recession.

As if the Congressional GOP has done anything but obstruct and cast meaningless beauty pagent votes over the last 3+ years.

I agree-Obama should stand up to those bullies and thugs for the good of the country.

Fine balance budget with equal cuts to poor people food and defense spending.

You cant cut poor people food enough to make it work.

From a neutral observer (who's left leaning as far as American politics go, but centrist based on the rest of the developed world), both the democrats and republicans are equally guilty of not budging on their position. In terms of their platforms it looks appears like this to me:

Democrats: I want to spend unlimited money, and raise taxes
Republicans: I want to spend a shit ton of money, and lower taxes

Both seem to be keen on getting approximately the same deficit level, which is why the compromise always seems to end up there. Neither of the last two presidents made any actions that would lead me to believe they truly wanted a balanced budget.

Ehhh... do you really believe that?

Followup question: Do you really believe they'll still want to balance the budget if it pisses off seniors, requires significant cuts to defense, or requires increasing any taxes on the wealthy? All of the cuts can't come from the non-defense discretionary budget. There simply isn't enough money there.

You never have to ask if Republicans really believe something. This is the crew that believed that Saddam had WMD's and was responsible for 9/11. This is the crew that believed that trickle down would work. Yes, they really believe all sorts of stupid sh!t.

Belief has nothing to do with reality.

How many republicans of voting age believe that the rapture will come during their life times?

And we expect these people to think long term?
