AS for scsi, it still trounces IDE, but I see your viewpoint.
The best option, which I employ myself, is to implement scsi as only your OS drive so you get to appreciate its benefits in the field of access times.
THen get a large and slower ide for storage.
Presently I have:
1 18GB quantum/Maxtor 10,000rpm 10kII ultra160
1 Adaptec 19160 ulta160 adapter
1 40GB IBM 60GXP
1 Tekram RAID card
I will change the congif to:
1 36GB quantum/Maxtor 10,000rpm 10kIII ultra160
1 Adaptec 19160 ulta160 adapter
2 40GB IBM 60GXP in RAID O
1 Tekram RAID card
These configs still trounce IDE but still cost only a little more
