This one I wanted to address, because where I live, we have a caution light at a 4 way, 55mph on the orange side, new bypass built on the blinking red.
This intersection has had so many accidents at it, they redesigned the turning left for it 3 times since they built the new bypass.
On Dec 30th of 2022 at 4:55 pm, last 5 minutes of the last day of the year of my shift. I was traveling (I was told by my employer, a max 47mph) from the store I turned right out of towards the yellow caution light. This is rural area mind you. The caution light is at a truck stop gas station. FYI.
So people around these parts do NOT understand HOW to use HIGH beam headlights.
I was travelling towards caution light, a vehicle with highbeams on was traveling towards me. We crossed paths about 100 to being generous 200 ft after THEY went past the caution light. I was looking towards the RH side of road to avoid the blinding lights. As soon as we passed each other, I see a white pickup truck turning left at this intersection, they would have cleared if they were not pulling a trailer.
Soon as I could see the trailer I jammed on my brakes as hard as possible, I stood on them. (I am driving an F350 bucket truck, 22k lbs gvwr) caught their trailer with the drivers side of my vehicle and ripped their trailer hitch completely off of they vehicle. They were from out of state. The driver admitted to thinking they could execute the turn in time.
Point being, the State will not install a stop/go light at this intersection, although there are accidents there multiple times a month. I've seen at most 3 in one week.
State determines the safety of an intersection by the number of DEATHS at a particular location. Even the County (has told me) they cannot change it to a Red light Green light from the blinking yellow on fast side to blinking red on turning side.
That is fucked up. So it is not only people's own stupidity. It is also State stupidity. (I'd imagine if all these accidents didn't wear seat belts, it would be a red light green light intersection) Thoughts? PM me I will give you the exact intersection.
