Denied access to .xml file

I hope that I am in the right forum. I am attempting to install the nHancer Advanced Control Panel for my video card. It appears to install properly, but when I try to open the tool I get the notice: "Error reading .xml file 'C:\WINDOWS\System32\nvapps.xml': Access to the path 'C:\WINDOWS\System32\nvapps.xml' is denied."
I am running Windows XP Home and am listed as the Computer Administrator, and the nvapps.xml file is located where it should be. I have the latest driver installed for the EVGA GeForce 8800GTS 640 MB video card for what it is worth. I have not been able to receive any help from anyone on the nHancer forum. I was just hoping that any viewer might know the reason why I am denied access to this file. Thanks in advance.

Have you tried opening the XML file to see if you really don't have access to it?

No I get the notice: "Windows cannot open this file"

Isn't XP Home nice, hiding those permissions from you? I would use Cygwin and chmod, but you probably don't want to.

I also found this page which describes how to prevent a program from being run, but the instructions are probably very close to what you need to do. Looking at the second set of instructions (Windows 2000/XP), substitute your file in step 3, and instead of step 6 you should see some entry about allowing the file to be read.

I hope that gets you closer. Maybe someone else knows the full procedure for sure?

Hi Ken, Although my route was not exactly as in the directions that you gave me, and I was on unfamiliar ground, I eventually ended up at "Advanced Security Settings for nvpps.xml" I then Clicked on "Allow Users" and found that the Traverse Folder/Execute File was clicked "Allow" . I was not sure if there was anything that I should change so I backed out. I appreciate your help and if there is any further advice that you can give me I am very receptive. Thanks
