Ya'll are hilarious with your idealistic view of society that if we just spend more on social services that these hoodlums will choose to work an honest job rather than the get rich or die tryin for easy money they choose instead.

Fuck out of here with your, "the world could be a utopia" and ACAB Bullshit!

Ya want to know what deters crime - harsh punishment in lockup whether it be Corcoran, High Desert or Pelican Bay. Bring back Three Strikes!

Some people are corrupt to the core, but more than not people can be helped. The criminal justice system in this country only knows how to punish hard and make any chance you have at reintegrating super difficult, let alone having prison be rehabilitative.

And until you fix the underlying causes it's just going to repeat, unless you enjoy having a prison state. I'm all for punitive actions to criminals, but you need to offer rehabilitation at the same time. You have literally zero understanding of how sociological and economic problems manifest.

Rich people do crime, but they are more likely to get away with it. Nobody went to jail for the 2007 economic crisis which is nuts.

So I'm not going to be able read everything this afternoon, but one study was sponsored by the ACLU which has become a gigantic joke of an organization the last few years only out done by PETA.
But I wouldn't say there are clear cut omg this is the way take aways when this is the statement in the aggreate summary:

Results

Findings vary considerably over time. However, compared to research standards and in comparison to effect sizes calculated for police practices in other meta-analyses, the overall effect size for police force size on crime is negative, small, and not statistically significant. Changes in research methods and units of analysis cannot account for fluctuations in findings. Finally, there is extremely little variation in police force size per capita over time, making it difficult to estimate the relationship with reliability.
We have first hand, real time experience of what happens when you basically make crime legal, just look at all the businesses that bailed, are bailing or will bail out of the places where DA being recalled doesn't prosecute said crimes, cops see they don't so they move it along to something else.

I can agree with most of this, but I'm of the opinion people that have committed violent crimes need to be separated from society and as a society we should absolutely want to rehabilitate any criminal so when they get out they can rejoin society in a beneficial manner and not be a net drain on it.

They need to remake this movie https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0082340/ but call it "Escape from Oakland"
In-N-Out just closed too. Everyone is leaving.

Last time I was in Oakland there was a lot of homelessness. it looked depressing.
I think I actually ate at that one when I flew out of Oakland a few years ago.

Why would anyone think expanded social services now would change existing behavior? See, what WILL happen is that fewer people will need to resort to crime in order to make ends meet. Fewer people will be willing to risk what they have because they have both food and medicine when they need it instead of having to choose one or the other or neither. Fewer kids will grow up in crime-riddled areas thinking thug life is the only viable option.

How many fewer WILL be directly proportional to how much we are willing to spend, and before you ask "where will this money come from?" like a programmed meat sack: even if raising taxes on the wealthy back to historical levels before conservatives stole that from society wouldn't enough, which it would be; or cutting defense spending by half since we can already destroy every other nation on earth with three-generation-old conventional weapons without breaking a sweat let alone with state-of-the-art wouldn't be enough, which it would be; then let me remind you that we've been printing money since 2008. Something like 7 or 8 trillion dollars over the last 15 years.

Nobody is claiming we can make utopia. We can do a LOT better than we are doing now though. Instead a bunch of programmable meat sacks are worried about transgender story hour, you know, like completely reasonable human beings.

Oh fuck - here we go with "they loot & steal to buy insulin for there obese Grandma and to help Uncle Dave with his rent".

Flipping burgers at In-N-Out in Oakland is gonna get you $22/hr + benefits, Day laborers standing outside Home Depot will get you $25/hr tax free.

But if only these fine folks had Basic Income and real j-o-b-s they would not resort to crime!

Get Rich is the goal, not work hard and retire at 67 with Social Security...
Fast money, not long hard work is the goal...

The majority of violent crimes are perpetrated by a small number of persistent violent offenders, typically males, characterized by early onset of violent criminality, substance abuse, personality disorders, and nonviolent criminality.

Lock em up, 3-strikes em, make the 99% of society feel safe and secure so we can go about our head in the sand consumerism.

Why can't people like you understand statistics? How many "strikes" you gonna give people who negatively affect 99% of society?

We're watching businesses shutter and jobs being lost due to this 1%.

You dismiss with disdain any future results of greater wealth equality, access to affordable housing, decent pay, healthcare, social services, etc.. which would seriously mitigate the number of people who fall into criminal activity in the first place.

That's just wrong.

Of course they're will always be core bad people, but not like we have now if we implemented those things

These scumbags have more rights than we do, and that needs to change. We should have more rights when it comes to protecting our property and businesses, and ourselves. If someone comes on my property with intent to steal from me or harm me, I should be waved of any repercussions no matter what I do to them. I didn't sign up for that situation, I shouldn't have to be forced to be in it, and I should be able to bring it to a full stop using any force necessary. If they don't want to be harmed then they shouldn't be messing around with other people's property. Simple as that. Fuck around and find out.

We lock up more people in America than most other countries. Seems to be working out well. Keep spouting though, you're entertaining.

Clearly it's not enough! Must be different in other states...

So please move to Florida. From wherever you are

Real estate is too pricey up here in the city because too many people want to live here and not enough housing. We need to free up housing. Please scare right wingers into leaving.

Move to the land where people elected Ron DeSantis 😂

Or somewhere shittier, like South Carolina.

this is why i've decided to live in the middle of nowhere

it's great out here in comparison

especially if you buy in the right township with 5 acre minimums

i eventually want to buy a house in a township about an hour away, where everyone still lives about a half mile away from everyone else

No no he’s got a point. How many strikes are we going to give people who negatively affect the 99%? Although I’m thinking my list and his are going to have different folks on it.
