dental question: sanding teeth

Hey guys..

i heard from my sister today that she had a friend that sanded her upper incisors (sp?) to make them level with the rest of her teeth..

Im not too thrilled bout how my teeth looks...upper incisors are really big compared to the rest of the them..

have any of you heard or done such procedure?

experiences?

IIRC, they still have to be capped or bonded somehow to protect the softer tooth under the now missing enamel.

Otherwise, aside from some discomfort for a week or so, shouldn't be a problem.

In some Malaysian cultures, teenage girls all have their top and bottom teeth filed even. Very painful.

I had the medial edge of my two front teeth sanded down so that they looked straighter. Wasn't too bad, but the sandpaper has to go above the gum level - that's the painful part.

There are some cultures that, iirc, sand their teeth to points. I'll see if I can find a link.

Saw that on disc channel I think, crazy. They take a hammer and chisel and tap away until you have nice pointy teeth.

I wouldn't sand them down if I were you!! My mom says that is the one thing she regrets to this day! Her dentist filed way too much, and now they look midget teeth.

If you are gonna get it done, be sure to get them to file a MINIMAL amount..this will cut down healing time, and also not make your teeth look retarded.

Didn't read the other replies; I'm just going to post my deal.

I had four teeth sanded down as part of cosmetic surgery. All the dentist did was "sand the points down."

My canines were very sharp...almost vampire-like. On both the top, and bottoms. He simple sanded them down flat to match the others, height-wise. I had no anesthetia or needles; it didn't hurt at all and was all done in about two minutes flat. Big difference, appearance wise. A good move. Good luck..

Pick up 400 grit sand paper, commence sanding in an even pattern until desired effect.
