Dentists : What is the easiest way to pull a tooth using common household tools? (considering self extraction)

I have a tooth that is giving me alot of pain and I do not have dental insurance. I know for certain which tooth it is but
Dentist are wanting an exam fee, xrays and then of course the tooth extraction fee. Frankly I just dont have the money to
get the job done.

What do you recommend to do the job? What sort of force does it take to pull the tooth? At this point the tooth is not loose...I
figure its going to need some side to side pushing to help first loosen it up.
I figure the worst that could happen is that I could crush all of the tooth and then have nothing to grab onto.

Please help!

For the love of God do NOT do this yourself!

Have you ever seen Castaway! The movies don't lie!

Honestly though, this is NOT something you want to do yourself.

It's like saying, well my liver is giving me some trouble but to hell with having it removed by a doctor. Seriously, there is a lot of blood in your mouth and if you start losing a lot of it, you're going to be in trouble. This is definitely something you want a professional to do.

You aren't serious are you? You could seriously mess up your entire mouth. Just because you have a tooth ache doesn't mean you will have to have the entire tooth pulled. Go to the drug store and get that over the counter stuff that relieves tooth ache, then go to a low cost dental place like Western Dental. I highly recommend that you NOT try to do your own dental work.

have around 10 different styles of pliers though.. I have a few in mind that could grab the tooth ok.

if you do decide to DIY find somebody who can get you painkillers, preferably very very strong ones
this will probably be the best advice that you will get

:Q
do you have any idea how much that would hurt???

If you're crazy enough to try it, get really really drunk. It may even be better if you're passed out. I had an extraneous tooth removed a few years back and it hurt like a bitch during and after, even with 2 shots of novacaine. I'm sure anyone whose had their wisdom teeth pulled will tell you the same. And those procedures have been done by professionals...

I simply do not have the money to get it done. Does anyone know if any Dentists frequent this board at all?

Suck it up and buy some dental insurance. You'll likely do more damage to yourself than good.

Find the money because if you try to do this yourself you will be spending 4x as much money when they have to send your dumb ass to the emergency room.

He could always start an internet donation/begging site to get the funds up for the operation. That or man-whoring is good.

Look, its not rocket science.. what do you think they did back in the old days?? I dont see how pulling your own tooth is any
worse than letting your wife give birth at home.

Hmm you know how they have those county health clinics with doctors, do they have those for dentists, if so that would be a good cheap option. PLEASE do not pull ur own tooth, all i can imagine is blood and pain. You know how long a tooth is when its pulled, teeth have roots! eek, it still feels weird when they pull it with numbing stuff, imagine without.

But if you insist, ill tell you a lil secret.

Tie one end of a 3ft string to ur tooth, tie the other to a door nob, then have someone slam the door shut and ta-da! Instant remedy.

Yeah, they also did a LOT of stupid crap back then that got a lot of people killed, like surgery without sterile instruments.
There are dental offices that will work with you financially, and set you up on a payment plan.

What was the life expectancy back then? Oh yeah, like 40.

Antisceptics aren't touted as one of the best inventions in the last 100 years for nothing. If you think you're up to it, go ahead with extreme caution. Don't say we didn't warn you though.

Any dentist who would promote a stunt like this shouldn't be practicing. :disgust:
