I want the gel formulation as it doesn't blowback on you as much as the spray, with a belt clip. So I figured I'll be fine, don't want to try to track down this exact product in a brick and mortar.

As for the environment and conditions, those are obvious. Partisans use "bothsides" to justify paranoia and violence, with logic like "the (other side) does it, so it's ok for us to do it." Which, for extremists, devolves into "we think the (other side) is going to do something, so we need to do it to them first" in a kind of sick "pre-emptive self-defense."
Where it gets really stupid are cases like this one, where the "comply or die" crowd, who normally claim that just looking wrong at LEO is sufficient grounds to be executed on the spot, starts debating whether or not suddenly deploying bear spray out of a holster is a credible threat.
