That's how it should be done. Hopefully those two guys suffered a lot of pain.
why did he open the door anyway?
You all do realize that most of the crews that do home invasions have ordered swat gear off ebay, kick your door down, scream police as they tie up your wife and family before (hopefully) merely robbing you of valuables before politely leaving.
Frequently they take turns raping the tied up women in the house and the men are severely beaten if not killed for fighting back.
These incidents happen fairly frequently, we hear about them at least once every few weeks in my state, although they are never reported in the mainstream media. It's not often reported, I suspect to prevent more instances like this article from occurring.
Personally, I am a law abiding citizen. I have ZERO fear of a 'no knock' warrant being served on me. If someone forcibly enters my property, I will defend myself in every way possible, and I do not care what they're screaming or wearing.
That's a totally different situation. No doors were kicked down in this case. There was a knock at the door and he decided to answer it with a gun pointed at the unidentified visitor.
That's asking for trouble and it's not a smart thing to do.
If someone was banging/kicking my door in in the middle of the night, they'd be met with a gun. Of course, I am not a crook so I am not expecting the cops.

bwhahahahahahhah yeah right. they are blaming the guy
"It's just a bizarre set of circumstances. The bottom line is, you point a gun at a deputy sheriff or police office, you're going to get shot," Herrell said.
no need to bother with identifying yourselves as LEOs. that would just be stupid. :\
Our Police are turning into punishers and worse. We just had a guy approach a unmarked, ununiformed officer parked in the middle of the night on his property (Marked no parking as well). The cop claims was being choked and then thought he saw a gun, the family claims the guy was a very passive person.
Long story short the victim walked 100 yards, opened a gate and called two people for help. When his brother arrived the police kept him away. When he finally got through emergency treatment was never called nor did the officers now on the scene attempt to help the victim.
He died about an hour after getting to the hospital and they further delayed the ambulance 30mins leaving the scene.
I guess in the police eye's a dead witness is the better way to go.

Deputies shoot, kill man after knocking on wrong door

Am I missing something in one of the links? This was NOT a search warrant correct?
So this clown answers his door pointing a pistol at the cops? How exactly is this the fault of the police?
If this guy was so scared of some real bad guy/criminal at his door then why the fuck would he open the door? Does he respond this way for the UPS driver delivering a package? How about door to door solicitors?
I keep hearing this crap about the cops fucked up by not identifying themselves. Did this guy ask who was at the door and the cops didn't say anything or did he just answer a knock at the door with a gun?
Since when are police required to announce themselves when merely knocking on a door?
From what I read the cops saw the bad guys bike outside his door and went knocking to see if he was in that residence and this bozo answered a knock at the door without saying shit but rather decided to come out pointing a gun t cops.
Andrew looked away from his computer screen to check the clock. 1:25AM. Fuck, he thought, where did the time go? He shut off the computer and walked over to his bathroom to take a piss and brush his teeth, a usual nightly ritual for him.
As he sat there brushing, Andrew thought about how he would be waking back up in 5 hours to go to work. Why do I do this to myself?, he thought. Just as he was rinsing out his mouth a sound caught his attention- it someone wearing heavy boots was walking around outside the apartment's front door. Some muffled voices. The rattle of the door knob, as someone tried to open the locked door.
Heh, probably the couple from next door, too drunk to realize they have the wrong apartment, Andrew thought. The Blueberry Hills Apartment complex included a dozen apartments along the front of the building, of which Andrew's was just about right in the middle. Other than the apartment number on each door they all look the same, so it's not unheard of for someone to approach the wrong door before realizing their mistake.
As Andrew was pondering the situation, the previous sounds from outside his door were suddenly replaced with a loud beating.
"OPEN UP RIGHT NOW" shouted an angry voice from outside the porch. The pounding on the door continued, and it sounded like the door would be opening shortly, one way or another, even if it meant the intruder had to kick it in. Andrew glanced across his living room at his Glock sitting on the end table, but decided to first take a look.
He walked over to the door, and tried to call out to calm whoever was out there. "I'm here, calm down, I'm trying to open the door" explained Andrew. He looked out through the peephole and saw two large men, dressed in what looked like a black combat suit, with guns in hand. What the fuck is this, thought Andrew?
Andrew released the deadbolt and opened the door a bit, but kept the door chain locked. "What is going on?" he asked through the gap.
"Simply thing buddy. We need to have a word with you, maybe take you for a little drive. Open the door completely and come outside to talk" responded the larger of the two men.
"What the hell, I'm not gonna to step out of my home at one in the morning without some sort of explanation, fuck you guys" Andrew started to slam the door, but the larger intruder had his left hand in the door frame.
"Asshole just smashed my hand!" blurted out the grim man, pointed his .40 S&W where he figured Andrew was standing, and shot through the door. The pain in his hand burning, he didn't stop at one shot, and pulled the trigger 4 more times.
His accomplice watched grimly, a little shocked at what happened but who is going to argue with a man carrying a loaded gun?
The grim man grunted "lets get this finished", and kicked the door in hard, snapping the door chain. Without the chain holding it the door swung around, and stopped with a distinctive clunking sound as it hit Andrews skull.
The men stepped inside and saw Andrew dead on the ground. A bit of worry struck the shooter, but he went about his business checking the scene for evidence or anything useful. When he found the Glock sitting on an end table he came up with his plan and story.
Normal people don't answer the door by pointing a gun at somebody. Guy was guilty of something, this is just karma setting the books strait.
