I live in Northern IL and its been pretty mild. windy sure but not that bad.

That's the worst times. When it's got a chance to get hot and that cold jet stream gets to mixing with all that warm air. The worst storms I've seen all started like that.

I never heard of it until last year when one came through here, and tore the shit out of my property. Destructive little bastards, and they bring helicopters to your neighborhood. I don't like being looked at, and I especially don't like being looked at from the sky.
Derecho = Spanish for "straight"
Derecha = Spanish for "right" (as in a "right turn" )
I'm pretty sure that is confusing for people learning Spanish.
