Dern Video card or something

I have a problem and it is killin' me.

About 3 days ago, I launched up Team Fortress Classic. A little while into the game, it just froze up.. completely. I had the VPU Recovery off, so it didn't go back to the desktop, it just froze. Anyway, I thought it was just a hickup with the computer, so I rebooted and tried to play again. This time, it wasn't but like a minute into the game and it froze.

So my thinking at that point is that I will need to try and reinstall the game. I never got around to doing that.

So now, today, I go and try to run SimCity 4.. and about a minute into the game, it also freezes. I tried another game, it freezes. I turned on VPU Recovery, so atleast I don't have to reboot my computer. I can't find the damn error information.. I must have that turned off somehow.. I DO know that it wants to send it.

Anyway.. it started all at once and I havn't done anything to the computer. I have tried c hanging drivers.. no help.

Anyone have any idea on what this could be and do I need to provide any more information?

Sounds like maybe the fan on your card died. I would check that first.

Ok the fan is spinning around.

This is killing me.

If the game even runs, there are artifacts.. and the games never run more than 1 minute.

I have tried cleaning drivers, etc, etc..

I got a blue screen earlier and it had one of the ati drivers file listed, which is why i cleaned the drivers and reinstalled.

I hope to god that the videocard is not tore up. I don't feel like buying a new one.

BTW.. I havn't cleaned the dust on the fan in about a year (I estimate, maybe sooner).. can that do anything?

Yes it can... dust is like a nice heavy coat of insulation keeping your video card nice & hot, plus it can also slow the fan down & make it not cool effectivly even though its still turning..
I'd pull the card out & give it a good cleaning, also while your at it, blast the dust out of the air intakes & exhusts on your case, paying special attention to the PSU.

Well I cleaned the dust.. and I have tried blowing a fan at it... no luck.

I am totally confused. ATI VPU Recovery doesn't give me ANY information on the crash.

Any other suggestions on what I might could do to test if it is my card or something else?
