Descent 1 and 2 was the best game ever.

Who played Descent in 1994 and then Descent II with the thruster in 1995.

I played with a nice 26400 baud connection to my cousin and there was no lag, just amazing play. I use the keypad to move in all sorts of directions,, it was full 360 and the weapons and the hiding,,, it was the best 1v1 experience online of my life. Then came Duke3D in 1996 and we played that 1v1 modem conn and no lag and it was fun. Then slowly in 1997 3D made its debut with voodoo 1 or the Hercules 2D/3D card, then openGL and DirectX evolved to what we have now.

I'll never forget the old days, I mean for that time we were on top of the world with Descent and Duke3D.

I read this expecting Descent: Freespace 1 & 2 + The Silent Threat.

Whilst Descent 3 was the only one in the series that I played and it was enjoyable, it hardly sticks out as something being memorable for me except being the first game that could induce motion sickness.

I preferred Freespace 1 and 2 to the claustrophobic Descent predecessors. They were just much more fun.

We played the s*&% out of Descent back in the day. all of them. That was our all time favorite. We played multiplayer at lunch time at work.. luckily I shared a cube with my manager and he loved Descent as much as the rest of us.

I still play the Descent games regularly today. There is an fanmade version of Descent 2 called D2X-XL with an updated engine, and people still play Descent 3 online. There is no modern game that is anything like this series.

I still have a copy of Descent 2 somewhere. Descent was being used to demo an HP computer in a store, and I got hooked on it right there. It was the first PC game to get my into it.

I remember switching to Aol because it was the only provider in the area that supported my pimp 56K Sportster modem, just so I could log into Kali and play some multiplayer Descent.

Descent 2 once I got the Monster 3D 3Dfx card was INCREDIBLE. That was one of the first true 3D games. I thought 3D was just a gimmick, but holy cow was it incredible. Well worth the $300 I spent for that 4MB (yes MB) 3Dfx card.

I put in hundreds of hours designing levels and played the campaign through at least twice.

But I also did love Freespace 1 & 2. I still mean to go back an play it with the latest mods, just haven't taken the time.

i played the hell out of both games back in the day and loved it. in fact, my dad bought me "descent: the definitive collection" that had descent 1, descent levels of the world, descent 2, and descent 2: vertigo. crazy how i remember the names too...

easily two of my favorite games of all time. the fact that all the enemies were robots, you could upgrade your weapons, and have really cool music (descent 2 had music tracks on it so you could blast amazing tunes in your car) play while you rock out.

loved that game. d2 was the first full PC game that I played. I spent so much time in it back in the days and got really good at it in multiplayer.

Since I just read this thread I just redownloaded D3 from gog.com. I never did finish that game, probably because had a billion other games to play at the time. I think I'll go back and give it a shot.

Freespace is NOT a Descent game. Descent games are defined by their claustrophobic mine exploration layout.

Freespace was good, but does not belong under the Descent name.

ViperGTS and I used to play Descent 2 PVP via 9600baud modem back in the day. Good times.

I never liked it as much as more traditional FPS games, but it was an extremely unique experience for the time. Kind of wish I had gotten into them more.

What does this have to do with Descent or Descent 2?

Yep, Descent was a true revolution for graphics and a great game too.
It was one if not THE first true 3D game (with dynamic lighting).
