I'd be working with quirky people like myself who love to "get their hands dirty" and who can really give things that extra push when they need to. Should be there in a few years.

I'm currentlhy a Business Analyst doing BPR work similar to what you described. I perform interviews, diagram AS-IS and TO-BE processes, and I also manage schedules, risks, milestones, etc.

While the job itself can be interesting, i.e. you're either integrating business workflow or "suggesting" process efficiencies, whether you like it or not really comes down to your employer.

My employer gave no benefits, no perks. I simply got a paycheck every week, and because of the lack of motivation, I became quite disgruntled.

Anyhow, I got a new job doing the above, except more from an R & D and Project Rollout perspective. And this time, I get benefits.

I guess I got OT from the topic. Sorry.

Probably more boring and a lot more training/cleaning your weapon/sitting around doing paperwork and reports/etc. than you think.

i think it'd be cool to be an actor. not a huge star like tom cruise... maybe someone less known and less good looking, so i can still be rich, but without the recognition.

Oh, absolutely employer makes a difference. I quite literally hate the job I have right now but my employer is amazing and that's really all that's keeping me hanging on. A good employer can make all the difference, but if you're not doing something that you enjoy, then it's not only a pain, but you're killing your career because you're not on the path you want to be on.

Right now I'm in Finance and it's all numbers and very little, if any, process analysis or process design/modeling. There's nothing in what I'm doing now that will help me progress to where I want to be and no matter how good my employer may be I'm not going to be happy doing what I'm doing. I'm looking for more chances to be an "expert", to analyse a situation and help bring in and teach the solution.

I don't know what my ideal employmwnt would be. Something intellectual I guess. I was and will be taking technical writing courses. After I get my B.S. I might go for a masters. Communications is a pretty open field, though it is a competitive field. I just want to do something interesting. I also don't like deadlines very much. Being able to work from home is possiable in theis profession. I thnk it would be cool to write technical manuals and get to play with new technology before anyone else has a chance to buy it. Whereever I work I want to work in a low pressure environment. I also have some physical ailments, so I am unable to do a lot of physical work. I hope I can find something that akes into account all these things.

advancing the feild of robotics, in a relaxed environment in which I would be more or less free to proceed as I saw fit, and compensated well enough to enjoy a high standard of living.

I read about this job in my IEEE magazine, and it always seemed to me like the perfect job.

At cisco, they have a job that asks you to travel around the world, to different countries all over the planet, to research and find out about new and emerging technologies.

As long as I could bring my wife/girlfriend along, that would be my dream job.
