Desert exploration games

Anybody know of any awesome, immersive games where it's really fun to explore? I was imagining a huge desert environment with huge dinosaurs you have to avoid/kill and stuff. With occasional oasis's and stuff (lewl).

Games like WoW are NOT fun to explore in. Not fun at all. I'm talking something where you have no idea what you'll see next and there's a lot of holy shit moments.

Even better: anyone know of a co-op exploration game.

I have a list of games that I would love to see. This has been on it for ever.

Oblivion is sort of like this in a way. I really enjoy wandering around aimlessly, there's a lot of cool stuff to be seen. Of course it's likely this world isn't big enough or varied enough to suit your interest, or you've already played it, but it's something to check out if somehow you missed it.

yeah already played it, not that great to explore... all the caves are the same and anything 100 feet away is a blur.

maybe the game I'm looking for will only be possible with more time.

Only game I can think of that comes anywhere near close to exploration in a desert is the original dune game. It's incredibly oldschool, but I can't think of any other games that's both set in a desert and involves exploration.

Imagine how well Desert Explorer Extreme would sell. It would sell literally dozens upon dozens of copies.

Try Spore when it comes out. You'll have an almost endless number of worlds with an almost endless variety of creatures.

Endless Ocean for the Wii perhaps? It's not a desert but I hear it's a pretty relaxed exploring game.

I hope a developer licenses the CryEngine2 and makes an adventure or exploration game with it, it would be pretty awesome.

Oblivion allows for a LOT of exploring if you so wish to. The terrain/animals/buildings/vegetation changes as you go from area to area, as well as lots of buildings to explore and sneak around. With some mods you can make it just to your taste.

For dinosaurs, carnivores/carnivores 2 is the closest thing i can think of. You hunt dinos ranging from duckbill dinosaurs to the T-Rex, and the AI isn't half bad. But be warned, it's horribly outdated graphics wise.

-Edit- oh and there is stalker, but you are forced to explore more so to progress through the game.

Far Cry 2 is the closest game that enters your description. But given some time there will be some amazing exploration-like mods for Crysis, and one of them is a total conversion to turn Crysis into a chaotic environment set in the Turok universe, with dinosaurs, of course, but is mostly focused on exploration, and I do believe and know that the CryEngine 2 is more than capable of doing what you'd like to play, but the current context of Crysis makes it a mere shooter with nothing really worth it in terms of exploration, and the wildlife you see is scripted to the bones, not to mention that the diversity is barely existent (sharks, birds, crabs, fish, turtle and hmmm... what else?).

wooo, i just remembered i had heard a while ago about a diving MMO thing (yes, it sounds stupid), where you are a diver in a coral sea and just swim and explore the reefs and the diverse ecosystem.

That is all i know of this.

Assasins creed comes out in a few days, it has some amazing exploration and an almost limitless view if your rig can handle it.

Seven Cities of Gold had *a lot* of exploration, covering jungles, forests, plains, deserts, mountains, etc. No dinosaurs, but you could 'recruit' natives to work in your gold mines.

Yeah, sounds like a pretty solid setting.

There is a wonderful exploration game called Desert Bus that I think you'd be interested in. It's officially freeware I believe, and it provides many hours of exciting entertainment. You should check it out by all means.

Look up the game called Outcast. that definitly had it. graphics were odd, only software based, but done _very_ _very_ well. ran like crap when it came out though.

One option is to try the MMORPG's playing as a rogue (stealth char) where you can sneak and explore. A Tale in the Desert *somewhat* fits what you want too.

In that game, I spent hours going from city to city and seeing the buildings and art people had done, but no dinosaurs or anything close.
