Designated Survivor (TV show)

On the night of the State of the Union, an explosion claims the lives of President and all present members of the Cabinet. Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Tom Kirkman, who was named the designated survivor, is immediately sworn in and struggles to prevent America from falling into chaos, unaware that the attack is only the beginning of what is to come.

Kiefer Sutherland as Tom Kirkman... hmm.

Total unknown if this show will be any good... I can't see it being anything like 24, so, *shurg*.

Wouldn't the show have gotten off to a more dramatic start if he was off in Camp David (like in real life) instead of a block away? You could do a nice 4 episode arc on just trying to figure out the extent of the attack, all the chaos, not sure if his family is alive, etc.

Instead it's like West Wing: Unlikely President

Dear god, I hope it's not too West Wing. That pie-in-the-sky idealistic view of politics was nauseating. I hope it lands somewhere in between 24/Homeland and West Wing, a pragmatic President that wants the world to be a good place, but accepts that he's going to have to kick some ass to make it happen.

So far, it has been very predictable, the drug dealing son, the General that wants to go to war, the guy next to the stall talking trash, Iran sending destroyers, the Russian made anti-tank mine, and finally the reluctant president (which the stall guy said he never should be president), that 'talked down' Iran to recall the destroyers.

Looks like this is going to end up being a inside job, I am betting on 'home grown terrorist'.

I agree with ElFenix, this just seems to have started in a very different direction.
Not the worst thing on, but, then again, not the best thing on either, more or less just average.

Apparently the 'designated survivor, is not kept far away under lock and key, at least not back in the Clinton administration. Cuomo had dinner at a restaurant in New York, then with his family in Virginia.

Am I wrong in thinking that southerland should have been taken to AF1 instead if the white House? What's the greater risk, AF1 going down or the WH being bombed?

Ya I thought they'd keep him at least in the bunker the whole time but he was freely roaming outside of the WH.

I watched it... based on the review the day before in the SF Chronicle. It was pretty darn good. Real good casting and acting. I DVRed it and watched last night. Don't like having to FF and adjust to get past the commercials. I usually just buy a set later in DVD or get it from the library. No commercials to deal with then. Anyway, it was good and will DVR it weekly. I never do that, never!

Jeez, I think you watch too much TV. That stuff was all fresh and new to me, I liked it. If I get too much into trying to predict plot lines I figure it sucks, but I'm not doing that.

Wife and I had the same observations. No way would the SS let him or his family roam free like that, especially outside. The show has potential. We both thought it was worth watching a few more episodes so see how it goes.
