<< Does DELL require a signature on their stuff? Thanks, boys and girls. >>
I've never had a signature required on UPS deliveries from Dell. The UPS guy just leaves it, though my UPS delivery values mostly have not exceeded $100. Well, except for the Sony DSC-85 they left on my front porch!! (7 p.m. I'm on the computer - BAM BAM BAM from the front door. I open the door, find the box, and note the UPS truck high-balling it down the street.) >>
Dell requires a signature for all UPS shipments regardless of the value. (read their FAQs) If your UPS guy is leaving your parcels, either you have a prior release agreement on file with UPS or the driver just does not care. Either way, if your shipment is lost after a delivery is noted in the UPS tracking system, Dell will not be liable and good luck getting a reshipment or your money back. >>
GetReal - That may be in the FAQ, but the boxes I have received from Dell through UPS do NOT have the signature required paperwork. (I've still got the boxes - if you don't believe me, drive to Alabama and I will show them to you.) This includes the two boxes I received in the past two weeks - one with the Ethernet hub and PCMCIA card, and the second box with 3 PCI NIC cards.
When I have gotten packages from other vendors with signature required, UPS has always insisted upon a signature at delivery. That usually requires me to go pick up the package at the UPS station.
I am familiar with UPS signature required labelling, and the four packages I have gotten from Dell via UPS in the last four months HAVE NOT had signature required.
For that matter, the 3 FedEd packages I've gotten from Dell in the last year have been left without signature required.
The only instances I know of when signature has been required from Dell has been friends getting desktop and monitors via UPS, or my laptop and docking station coming in through Airborne. All of those required signatures.
