I've got a desktop that is randomly locking up. It appeared that after running for a while, and getting hot, it would lock up after a minute or 2. I initially suspected it was a problem with the RAM, and so i used some component cooler. This solved the problem for a bit. But then after the desktop ran over the weekend, it ran without locking up at all. I've run Spinrite on this system, not really because i suspected the hdd was at fault, but mostly to give it something to do, outside of windows. It did lock up once while using Spinrite.
So after the new ram arrived, the problem has persisted. The BIOS doesnt give a readout of power levels or tempatures, so i'm in the dark on that. But i'm also considering updating the bios to a new version.
