Do you have anything in mind except for MS Flight Simulator and PT Boats?

I haven't been one with the games for a year or two and i don;t know what's happening. I got myself a pretty powerful rig so any proposals for simulation games?

Well, if you're looking for realistic WW2 Air combat (and a little ground, Naval, & PT boats), I highly recommend Aces High. It's got a steep learning curve - it's a serious sim. The focus is air combat, and you can go 10 years and learn something every time you up. It's $15 a month and well worth it. The devs work hard and the community is ridiculously helpful.

Silent Hunter 4 is a good subsim. Don't bother with 5 for 2 reasons, one the Ubisoft DRM, and two SH games take a year of patching to make them good lol.

If you want the Atlantic experience, with the happy days and the eventual "we're not gonna survive this war" feeling, pick up SH3. It really, really requires the massive GWX mod to run properly. Actually I've never encountered a game that required so much external tweaking, but once it's all done the game is probably the best subsim out there.

SH5 is reportedly quote buggy and is in need of major community patching/modding, according to the subsim.net forums. Cool forum, those dudes have been waiting years for a new sub sim.

Have there been any nuclear sub simulations recently? The only thing I can think of was Jane's 688i Hunter/Killer, and that was ~15 years ago. (Also Sid Meier's Red Storm Rising, which is 22 years old now, but I still play it in Dosbox on occasion. Not a super hardcore realistic sim, but tons of fun.)

Having suddenly become curious, I find this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dangerous_Waters. 5 years old now, but. Was that any good?

If anyone would know, it's definitely the guys at subsim.net. Those guys take it seriously. Quite a few are ex-Navy dudes from around the world.

Cripes, I remember when the ONLY games made were sims ! I put more hours into BoB, SWoTL and 1942 than WWII lasted !

I am curious if anyone has played Wings of Prey yet. Any thoughts on that sim ?

Check out the Comanche series. It's a stealth helicopter simulator based on the US Army RAH-66 Comanche. The latest and last release was the 4th game that was produced back in 01'ish. Fun though.

Falcon 4: Allied Force. Pretty old, but still a very good sim. Pity your idiot wingmen will always get themselves killed.

-WWII Online (aka, Battleground Europe).
MMO FPS ($14/m) with very dated graphics but when it comes to WWII aircraft sim combat I'm not sure much else compairs. The gameworld consists of most of europe with terrain taken from satellite photos and most of the major towns/cities are there so you can fly to any of them (assuming you don't get shot down). Everything from engine RMP control to extending wing flaps is there, planes handel like in real life (eg, turn to hard and lose control) and there is a very detailed damage model where parts of your plane can be shot off (losing part of your wing not being as bad as losing your whole tail section) or you yourself can be shot and thus have problems controling the plane assuming your not dead.

-ARMR II
While more of a modren combat sim then a flight sim, it still might be worth checking out if you are intrested in the aircraft that are in the game. You still have fule, wing flaps and RPM but flight wise it doesn't compair to WWII Online. It also has a very large map (a few hundred square miles) with a very high level of detail that will tax your system. It also includes a editor (units, not terrain) that will allow you to put units around the map and give them orders such as "When X unit enters X area head to X location and do X action". It has MP, but public matches are a total mess. There are however many "clans" that work towards a more realistic gameplay style to the point of weekly training sessions.

-Engima Rising Tide
Best open ocean WWII surface navel sim I've found. Includings ships (ranging from PT boat to destroyers) and subs. I think the slient hunter series would be better for subs though.

-X3
Yes, Sci Fi space fighter sim, but being on sale at steam you might be interested. While not a ture sim (you constantly bleed speed until you stop) it looks pretty damn nice. Look it up on google if you are interested (I suggest X3: Terran conflict and skip X3) and if you just want the sim part look for cheats and mods.

Dangerous waters is great, along with playing as a US/USSR sub commander you also get to play in a maritime anti-sub aircraft.

another vote for Digital Combat Shark - very very accurate simulator for the helicopter and a large learning curve. I can't wait for the next plane in the series - AC 10!

NavyField - A room based naval combat mmo. Older sprite based graphics but still fairly fun.
