Desperately in need of Word 2007 recovering skills

I am running Word 2007, and have been working on this document for a long time. word crashed, and now gives me the message:

The Office Open XML file SE310 Proj.docx cannot be opened because there are problems with the contents.
Details:
Unspecified error
Loaction: Part: /word/document.xml, Line 2, Column: 65336

I have tried to find autosaves and other backups, but seems Word 2007 deleted those, I went into the document.xml file but was unable to find any problems.
The document is completed, and due by 5pm Eastern time.

If any could fix it you would have my eternal gratitude, and I will see if I can return the favor

One thing to learn from this: make your own backups. Don't ever trust automatic backups or have only one copy of anything that has taken hours (much less days) to create.

Also, your hard drive will die, so never only have copies on one hard drive. Servers die too, so never assume keeping all of your backups there is safe either.


One thing you can try is to open the docx in WordPad (since XML = text) and copy-paste chunks of text out of it. Painful, but better than nothing.

docx are compressed files, rename it, unzip it, and the files are there... still gonna be a pain to extract

It loaded for me actually, using Word 2003 w/ the Word 2007 "compatibility pack" or whatever.
