. If it's through Battlenet, I guess that is Blizzard influence, no?

I suspect it has more to do with Activision getting tired of giving Valve 30% of every sale and wanting more control over customers. If Destiny goes well on Battle.net I won't be surprised to see a lot more Activision games joining it. That is assuming that Activision could have just used Steam for the community backend since every Activision game until now (well not the ones in the 80's, 90's, etc.) has required Steam.

In other news, I heard that Activision recently announced microtransactions that have upset some people. Supposedly they give bonuses that make the game "pay to win". I'm not sure how much I'd care since I'd never play the PvP, but it probably isn't a good sign if that is true.

Is Destiny 2 even remotely similar to The Division in any way, barring the fps and third person perspective of course?

well the demo story mission i got to play i am gonna think that...

and a lot of people compared it to the division.

so i am gonna assume a lot of bullet sponging + pve / pvp grinding.

Also i am so tired of pugs.... sigh... it seems they get worse every year, and every new game that comes out.

Destiny is first person view instead of Division's third person. There are a lot of similarities. Shoot things, get loot. Dungeons w/ boss fights, raid type content, some world events. There's definitely enough similarities between the two to make a comparison. On the bright side Destiny 2 really can't be handled worse than Division was (poor, poor Division).

Aigomorla, pm'd you my blizzard battletag. I'd love to start some form of group. Was kind of my goal for Destiny 2. I never got the chance to raid in D1, started far too late in the cycle. Between the people here, especially those of you who played division with us, my rl friends, and my decade of raiding in WoW we should be able to find enough people to have a small group.

I really like how D2 is on bnet instead of steam. My steam friends list is all over the place and the vast majority of them stick to whatever genre they play while bnet is far more catered to an mmo type experience. Should bode well for destiny support.

I kind of hope not. Battle.Net's Launcher software was never really designed for a large number of games, and that's fine since Blizzard doesn't have that many games that even use it. Prior to Destiny 2 being added, it was just World of WarCraft, StarCraft II, Diablo III, Hearthstone, and Overwatch. Now, there's StarCraft and Destiny 2, and they had to make changes to shrink the indicator for games so things would fit.

I hated The Division, well at least after endgame. The gearing up fps thing didn't really work for me. Wonder why I'm still so addicted to WOW though. Does destiny have good endgame raids? Cos all I got from The Division in the endgame raids were the same looking guys just with a beefed up HP bar with more armour.

Destiny's endgame was better than The Division's. Enough to make it worthwhile for you? No clue.

I've never played The Division so I can't compare to it, but Destiny's end game is the FPS equivalent to MMORPG raids. Trash mobs leading up to different types of bosses with environmental puzzles at times with areas to clear before you can move on. The trash mobs drop mostly junk but have some good stuff and then the boss drops a high end or epic type weapon/armor.

HMM ok. Thanks. Checked out some gameplay videos on Destiny 2 and read several suggestions in comments to try out Warframe. I did try it out and was pleasantly surprised. How is that a free to play game?
People who've played both Warframe and Destiny, which one according to you was more enjoyable? Cos I'm having a whale of a time with Warframe.

You hit a wall really quickly w/out spending money to progress in Warframe. If you only want to kill stuff and play the same starter levels repeatedly then Warframe is a good choice. Have a couple friends who've dumped north of 500 hours into Warframe, their response was "it's a good free to play game but gets repetitive and grindy." I only put about 20 hours into it and thought it was ok but not for me.

The Division definitely got boring in the latter half of the game. I don't think the developers ever compensate for the large percentage of people who try the game and then don't continue to play after a week or two. That dark zone stuff was occasionally pretty fun but after a certain level the normal missions were barely populated. I did have some fun little battles in that game though.

With Destiny I think it was wise to use BNET because it's the sort of polished game that has literally outgrown Steam or Origin. It also has a very heavy emphasis on relying on the online servers for matchmaking and streamlining online/offline features. I'm anxious to see how the full PC version feels and I think it will be largely successful.

I enjoyed The Division up until endgame, just grinding the same missions over and over.
Never played Destiny. May try Destiny 2, especially if I could get a group of people to play. Although I always post on the forums for MP games but rarely does anyone ever play with me. I played a few times in The Division with someone and it was fun.

Hmm alright. Thanks a lot. It all points towards me wanting to play Destiny 2 and see it with my own eyes.

Warframe gets grindy as hell as well.
Also u need to join a clan asap for some of the weapon blueprints and mat blue prints.
And it cant be a newbie clan, but a well leveled and stocked clan.
Luckly lots of those high level clans are always recruiting.

But there are also keys, and alerts you need to do... in short if you want to go the free to play route, its very painful especially if your after a new suit as it will require you to grind mats until it drops from bosses.

Also you'll probably end up having your head explode when you level your suit for the 6th+ time due to repolarization? i forget what its called, but basically stat changing customizing.
Each time u customize one thing on the suit, it goes back to lvl1, and you can only customize it once you max the suit out.
The same applies with weapons, and dont get me started on farming card mods.. lol....

I like first person shooter games and only interested in single player. The game looks fun but will get this on sale after they release all expansions.

Just got my package from amazon. Preloading now.

Getting decent speeds from Blizzard servers a good 55-80MB/s shouldn't take more than 10-15 minutes.

I was looking at the collector edition trying to justify it, but it's just such crap for the price.

Woohoo! Launch is happening in 11 hours and my clan and I will be playing all day tomorrow. I haven't been this excited for a game in a long time.

Sounds like lots of people are already turned off by Destiny 2, haha. Bummer!
