- the pacing of the game is a bit strange. It's more "stay in orbit and select your next mission" rather than a big world. Again, could be because it's beta and only limited things are available (one zone pretty much, but it has several places to visit).

Anyway, this game is no Borderlands 2 (I saw someone trying to compare it to BL2). Borderlands 2 feels like a huge world that you can explore, Destiny Beta feels like a mission picker.

1) Changing special and heavy weapons removes all ammo. No idea if this is intended? I hope not, cause it's rather annoying... Especially for the rare heavy ammo.

2) Can't open some loot chests - the icon shows up, I press and hold square (PS4) and the wheel almost fills up. Then it just disappears and the chest doesn't open. I tried several times. I found this buggy chest in Skywatch, where you hunt for dead ghosts. There's a cave next to a chopper from which some of the Fallen spawn. Inside it was the buggy chest.

5) Enemy AI - seems the enemy, if you attack from far away, does not really react. They move around a bit but not really engage you (or at least head towards your location - I just killed one of them!).

6) LOOONG loading times - especially when going to the Tower. The loading times are really noticeable, which is surprising since the PS4 has 8GB of memory and the locations aren't really *that* big.... No idea if anything can be done about this so late in development? Having to go to the Tower all the time doesn't really help forget about the long loading either

1) The explore part of the game is where the open world is or when you're on a mission and go get yourself sidetracked. It is far from a mission picker. When you go to a mission you don't actually have to go one linear direction either, there's no walls to block you, the whole world map is open to you.

2) The load times in the tower are because of the game having to instance your cryptarch, messages, vanguard ranks, inventory timers for the npcs, the inventory the npcs have, as well as load in all the players that may be there.

3) The weapons use different ammo, so yeah it's intended. You should (I hope you are buying them) bring the ammo packs from the weapon npc. Heavy ammo drops like water from a leaky faucet for me. I see it all the time, and generally you shouldn't be using up your heavy ammo that much anyhow.

4) The enemy AI doesn't react much if you're far away probably because they cannot tell what direction you are shooting from. If they can see you, they will attack you. I've had some enemies start attacking me from considerable distance. Across the map no, but pretty far away.

5) I've found some spinmetal plants that wouldn't allow me to pick them up. As if the server would not sync to me. I came back in a few minutes and it worked fine. Perhaps your chest was the same way.

There are things a lot of people probably haven't seen yet. In the forgotten shore there is sometimes a pack of fallen riding Pikes, if you kill one of them you can steal the pike and ride around shooting everything with it.

Cancelled my preorder. Nothing stood out to me that made this game special.

ok...

You get 5 missions and one strike and a couple pvp maps. I don't know what you were expecting. We got what Bungie told us we were getting. An FPS game with skills and classes to level, in an open world environment, with a story you can play through solo, and some pvp stuff to do.

I think people expect a lot from games now a days. Before we used to be happy with point and click adventure titles, now after gta v, watch dogs, halo, everyone has played everything and isn't impressed anymore since well we have pretty much seen all types of games out there.

I like that your stats still upgrade. I believe the beta map is just a small section of the whole world. There are three other planes including moons. I'm sure those planets will allow exploring and side missions too. It would suck if earth was the only exploratory plan it with missions and quests.

The beta is less than 10% of the final game I think I remember reading. What we see of Earth is nothing. Bungie says each planet will have an area larger than Halo Reach.

Ehh not every game is everyone's cup of tea. Some people want a faster paced game, some people don't like needing to upgrade or loot. I personally love it but that's why there's tons of different games.

I know the beta pretty much by heart now. I hope even the Earth area will be a lot bigger than what is in the beta, because otherwise this thing will be pretty small.

As for the ammo... primary weapons don't use same ammo and yet they do not reset? Also, I'm not saying a shotgun should shoot sniper rounds, but the game should remember how much ammo you have for a particular weapon type. Right now I can have full machine gun ammo, switch to a rocket launcher (get 0 rockets), switch back to machine gun and get 0 machine gun bullets... what happened to them? As for "shouldn't be using" - huh? It's fun running around dropping things with a machine gun, why should I not want to use it?

The sucky AI can be seen for example when fighting Thralls, especially in the last story mission's final fight. They just run around not really attacking me, as long as I do not cross a "magical line" - it's not even that far away from them... Also, the mobs in general seem to be hiding a lot, peeking behind cover and not really attacking. I can just run around melee'ing stuff as I see fit without much trouble.

And the load times? Please, loading a few values takes this long? Loading other things like textures? The console has 8GB of RAM, even if not all is used by the game, that still is a LOT. Starting the game - loading screen. Selecting destination? The ship "thinks a bit", does a reverse and heads towards the planet (takes a while...), then the screen goes black and you see an animation of the ship flying through the clouds (and Ghost doing a voiceover if it's a mission). Takes ages... And it's done every single time. Very annoying after a while.

Also, why can't you create teams with people you meet? You have to go back to orbit, then make a team, select a mission and then start again (and each time there are loading screens!). This is not really convenient at all.

Look, I like the game, OK? I have all 3 chars at lvl8, good gear on all of them and like 540 grimoire points. And I'll be most likely preordering. It's just that the game has some annoying things and I think some of the reasons for them is the fact that they also are for the old gen consoles with their paltry specs - that's why I think the game loading is done like it is (I have a PS3 too, OK?). They likely spend the PS4 resources on higher resolution and better textures, without really utilizing its memory size and other technologies in a "modern" way. They should have completely dropped last gen and stuck with PS4/Xbox1 only. But no way Activision would allow that, with the amount of money they spent on the game. "Make the game run on all consoles, no buts" is what Bungie heard

You can create a team on the fly, don't have to be in orbit. I'm not sure what you mean here as I just did it. Were you on explore or a mission or what? I did it on explore, just invited someone and if they accept they are added. Now if your friends aren't in the same zone it has to sync you up together somehow, maybe that's it?

As for it being on PS3 and 360 it makes sense with over 100million people who do not have a PS4 or XB1 yet. You can carry over your progress to the new system though.

My biggest complaint is that when someone is using a headset the chat doesn't default to headset only. A lot of my audio gets fed back through their microphone from their TV or speakers, and then I hear myself echo. That's for people who are using something like the little earpiece that comes with the PS4.

This my be a silly question, but does Destiny have an original story (i.e. Mass Effect style) or is predominately open world MMO. I'm just try to gauge what the release game will be like. I'm excited about Destiny but at the same time I'll be disappointed if its just about pickup groups and grinding.

I haven't played the Alpha or Beta so I don't have any sort of reference point yet.

It has an actual story with lots of lore and background story that we unlock through grimoire cards accessible on bungie.net.

The gist of it involves something called the Traveler that came to our solar system and through it's power Earth's civilization was enhanced and we colonized the solar system and after a couple hundred years the ancient enemy of the Traveler called the darkness came hunting it down. Earth was ravaged and our bases on the other planets were all but destroyed. There's only a single city left on Earth and the Traveler used the last of it's power to create the Ghosts which are floating AIs that have the job of finding those who can wield the light to become guardians and raising them from the dead to join the fight against the darkness and protect the last city.

Yes it has a story. The beta gives you 5 missions from the beginning. There is no grinding as bungie stated you can reach max level 20 in a couple of hours. It's more about the missions, side quests, gear and character classes/attributes.

I don't think loading times are that bad. You want long wait times, play mlb the show 14.

Another thing... the whole environment is very static. You can't change anything, blow anything up, etc... Everything is indestructible and unmovable. When on a mission, why can't a bombarding spaceship destroy part of the building you're hiding in? Or a rocket blow stuff up? Crates, tables, posts - everything is painfully static. The plane graveyard would be really cool if you could destroy it quite a bit. Or cover - why can't you destroy cover? Or enemies destroy yours? There aren't even barrels or ANYTHING you can destroy. Also, the enemy spawns... sure, sometimes an elite will spawn instead of a regular mob (yellow health bar), but apart from that all the spawns are identical. There is no variation whatsoever...

This doesn't really feel like a next generation game at all.

So it doesn't really have closure in the sense of a standard RPG. It's more akin MMOs with a never ending game were you level and experience game content and then end game content, after which move on to expansions and/or dlc?

Most of the world they used up the power for graphics and all the models. The focus was not on destructive environments so much. There could be some areas in the full game you could possibly destroy. But having the game be a massive mmo shooter type, takes a lot of resources so I think the destroyable environments are not quite possible.

The game story will have an "ending", but you can continue to explore.

I think bells and whistles will come over time. Right now, Bungie is focused mostly on getting the game world stable and providing a solid experience. Without a subscription fee, most of Destiny's long term revenue will come from expansions/dlc so its more important to have a smooth launch and slowly build a player base than to screw up and get bad PR.

The Alpha and Beta are mostly about tweaking network code and logging major bugs. I highly doubt Bungie is including any content that isn't absolutely necessary for the test. The fluff is reserved for release.

For what it is, the game is very fun and part of the fun is finding and using all the armor, going after bounties, leveling your stats and classes, and exploring different areas for loot.

This is the problem with Betas on consoles, people think this is exactly how the game is supposed to be. Betas are released to find bugs and test out servers, they are NOT demos. Also this is one of the most bug free Betas I've ever played, plus there's a ton to play as well. Betas are usually a map or two, not this much stuff to do.

I also agree. The alpha and beta are pretty well optimized. No hiccups at all.

There's talk about them letting us bring stuff over from beta to live.

I don't mind starting from scratch with a character, but I would like to keep my cryptarch levels and materials.

I'll be buying this on PC if they ever release it there. I like open world FPS games where you level up and stuff.

Whats the loot system like? Is it Borderlands/Diablo esque?

Don't know of any betas that have allowed this and definitely don't see them starting this at all.

I'd like to keep my levels and maybe my rare armors. If not oh well, but I'd like some of my hard work to remain with my account going forward.

I read something about some of the 6 player raids taking multiple hours to complete.
