Detection Issues

Alrighty, I'm going through a bit of a dilema. I just finished puting together a PC and everything posts fine, I can go into the BIOS and all. But I can't update the BIOS. I have the update on a floppy and it will read the floppy but right when it starts the update process (before it actually updates, just checking the file on the floppy), the update menu will close and nothing more happens. The floppy drive is fine too, I was able to load SATA/SCSI drivers in Windows setup. ::EDIT:: I should say I'm trying to use the Q-Flash program in the Gigabyte mobo.

Next problem. I have three hard drives installed, and I know I've installed them all right. They are a 36GB Raptor, 80GB Hitachi Deskstar SATAII, and a Maxtor DiamondMax 10 SATA150. If I go into raid setup or use the Hitachi FeatureTool, it will detect all the SATA drives, including my Plextor SATA150 DVD burner. But the BIOS can find none of them and I can't setup HD boot order because it finds no hard drives. Same problem in Windows, even after loading the nVidia drivers from floppy it wont find my hard drives.

I'm at an absolute loss here, I have no idea what to do. ='( Could anyone give some kind of check list of what I should maybe look for?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Plextor SATA DVD drive
NEC ND-3540a (it's currently set on primary IDE channel as Slave)

If I were you, I'd disconnect 2 of those drives and install your operatiing system.

After everything is working properly, then hook-up other drives.

Some mb's have a problem mixing pata & sata drives.
