detonator 6.01 -- don't do it

They suck. Q3A demo001 1024x768x32 Max went from 90 fps with 5.32 to 75 fps with 6.01. Quaver (same settings) from 81 to 71.

Funny.. I thought performance is supposed to increase as the driver versions progress.....maybe I was misinformed

I think NVIDIA purposely decrease performance over time in their drivers so that their upcoming new videocards seem faster.

Isn't it sad...although I think the last post is a joke, after thinking about it in light of all the crap that the nVidia PR dept. has become, I really have to wonder...they do seem like the type of people who COULD do something like that...

The 6.01 drivers are actually for the Quadro, not the consumer level GeForce. It stands to reason that if they are for the Quadro, certain things have been done to enhance the performance in professional applications as opposed to the requirements of games.

The 6.01 drivers also seem to produce odd glitches in 2D as well, so either way, they need work.

Certain things were not implemented in 5.13, especially in FSAA...some of the features were actually broken, so the card didn't actually have to render them, making the performance faster.

For an Athlon system, the 5.16 seemed to be the fastest for me. It has gone down hill ever since. The past few drivers and their hit on performance upon installation do give credence to Coki's theory. nVidia is capable of doing such things. Look at the way they try to bully some webmasters (recent Hypothermia fiasco is a good example). nVidia is probably another microsuck wanna-be.

I Run the Detonator 5.08 cause they're apparently the best of both worlds, IE. OGL and D3D..
I have a weird bug tho. when i try to go into the output device section of the menu, my monitor shuts off and i can't get it back
doesn't happen with 5.16 and 5.22 so far that i've tried
but i still continue to use 5.08, totally reliable and fast.
also, i have tried 3 diff. monitors, all do the same thing.
