Just got around to installing it and running it now. Little background on my rig first:

JUST reinstalled Windows XP Pro like 2 hours ago, so it's completely clean aside from Zone Alarm Pro and NAV which are currently running.

2.8 ghz P4
1 GB PC2700 DDR RAM
128 MB GeForce FX 5600 (Yeah yeah I guess I gotta upgrade)
SB Audigy 2
etc.. etc..

I check out the vid settings, and this is how I set it up:

Resolution: 1280x1024
Shadows: High
Textures: High
Character Detail: High
Bloom: Off (WTF is Bloom?)
VSynch: On
Multisampling: 1x (Again, WTF?)

So I started a new game.. and it was basically impossible to move around with how badly it choked my system. I downed it to Low on all three detail settings and 800x600 resolution and it STILL couldn't be considered smooth. Does my computer/graphics card SUCK that much?

I'm running a 2.4 @ 3.2 P4
ATI 9600XT
512 pc4000

I think even less settings than you have and its a slideshow (well maybe not that bad). It wouldn't be to bad if the graphics were outstanding but from what I have seen so far they are subpar..like bad. I hope everyone trys a demo first cause this does not look well for the game.

You know I really don't wanna have to say it but I sorta agree. I can't even get any real enjoyment out of playing it. The performance out of the first game back when it came out wasn't that fantastic either, but it wasn't nearly this bad. This is just horrible. I really hope there's some way to fix it all, I can't even believe that a brand new graphics card would help all that much.

Are there any built-in time_demos/benchmarks included with the full game?

TheVrolok & Antisocial-Virge- how did the demo run for you two? Was it in super-jerkavision too?

It ran fine on my less than cutting edge system (xp2000, ti4400 128mb, 1gig 2100) at whatever the default settings were. I had to adjust the mouselook, as it was waaay too sensitive, though.

I can't say that I found the demo all that fun though, so i'm not sure whether i'll bother buying the full game.

Never tried the demo but I can predict from the way it looks on my equipment, and looking at your equipment, I wouldn't buy it if I was you.

Try shutting down NAV and see if that helps. I know it seems to be a drain when it comes to many games (not all though)

I'm not having too many problems but overall I have to agree that there are some very iritating things about this game. The biggest irk being that the maps are so damn small and they are long in loading. I swear you take about 20 steps in some levels (Cairo) and you enter a new map. Major PITA!!!

I am running
2.4 - P4
1GB PC2700
128MB Geforce4 ti4200

and I can get it to run pretty well. I should be able to run my settings higher though...haven't had time to play around with them too much yet.

What settings ARE you running it at?

I noticed that when I turned off NAV and leave Bloom enabled it ran a bit better but nothing wonderful. What settings are you running it at?

The tweaks i used for this game

Goto \Program Files\Deus Ex - Invisible War\System.ini

Right click, select properties and uncheck read only

Then change the value for MouseLagThreshold=75 in the System.ini

Change this value to 0 for best results and then bye bye to that damn crappy mouse accel so you can enjoy this game.

Hope this helps some people

Bloom = Off (I too would like to know WTF this is)
800 X 600
All other settings = High

I do notice some lag time after playing awhile though.

It's not running to well for me either, p4 1.8@2.4, ti4400@4600 speed, and its really slow. i've come to a compromise at 800x600, no AA, and a mix of medium and high settings. When i say compromise i mean 20fps or so. Bloom is some kind of post processing shader i think. Anyway the difference with it on and off is pretty evident, seems like at a decent resolution with AA on it could be a really nice effect. If anyone remembers deus ex 1, it was a similar situation, in no way was it a groundbreaking game graphically, but a system killer. It didn't run that well even on a p3 933 with a geforce ddr as i recall, and that was pretty great hardware for the time. I'm fairly sure with an athlon fx51 with a 9800xt or 5950 would still strain to run deus ex 2 well.

Do I need to load this up @ 3.4ghz and a 425/360 R9800P to see if it runs?

Actually, I think us PC gamers have grown far to used to even our mid range systems dominating the new releases.... But I can tell ya, Star Wars KOTOR could bring my system to it's knees. I have no doubt Deux Ex 2 could as well. For some reason I'm just not excited about it though.

You know, that's the main reason why I typically avoid new releases until I've seen how well they run. Personally, I think it's absolutely unacceptable that a game like this would be released after hearing how poor it runs on high end systems.

If a game doesn't run acceptable on my upper mid-range system, I just don't buy it.

So do you guys think if I threw in a 256 mb 9800 XT it would have any kind of a dramatic effect? And anyone know what bloom and multisampling actually do?

And I just wonder what in the hell they were testing this game on before they released it and thought it was playable.

I think the trend is going towards very large high detail texture packs... I'd bet that more video memory would help w/ this game.

hmmm,
really choppy on a xp2500 @ 3200, 1gb ddr400 ram, radeon 9700np at 1024 x 768.
1280 x 1024 was unplayable. and really bad default mouse acceleration...
i hope they can patch it to something more playable and i'm not expected to upgrade now.

I searched the Ion Storm and PlanetDeusEx forums and found some nice info on tweaking the Retail copy.. I haven't done any and I don't have the links on hand because I'm not in my dorm room but it's something to look at if you've paid 50 bucks for the retail.

Bloom; If you lot care to notice in game, basically "blurs" further away parts of the game to make it look "more realistic". I play with it off though, its sharper that way.
Multisampling is the AA setting. 1x is off.

The demo ran amazing for me. Not a stutter in sight.
The Full version ran at 20fps, with no movement, in Alex`s bedroom, looking at the door!.

A Xbox - and only a Xbox. This port is so sloppy there are multiple comments in the ini files saying "This is the optimal setting for Xbox. For PC set them to X". And no one ever set them to their PC values.

Please do NOT buy Deus Ex 2 and support this kind of game development for PCs :|

That's unbelievable. I'm so incredibly disappointed.

My rig (at work) - Dell 8300 with 2.6c/512MB PC3200/ ATI 9800 Pro/Cat 3.9

I downloaded the demo and with no programs running in the background, it still runs very choppy @1024x768 with 2xAA/2xAF, medium settings. Can barely move around. I havent tried running it at lower settings yet because 800x600 looks like cr@p in a 19" CRT. :disgust:

Also the demo doesnt save my preferences for keys and mouse buttons.

I was looking forward to buying the full game because Deus Ex was one of my favourite games, but unless they release a patch or something to fix the performance issue, I am not paying for a slide show.
