I'm less than 2 hours in so far but this game has grabbed and drawn me in like nothing else I've played since V:TM Bloodlines.

The atmosphere is phenomenal-great music is a big part of that
shooting and cover mechanics are just about perfect so far
Graphics look fantastic and the "near-future" art style is beautifully done.

This is absolutely the best quality game I've played so far this year. Don't be deterred by the people nitpicking the cut scenes (which are noticeably lower quality, but I don't find them distracting at all) or load times (fixed in the new patch). You do not want to miss this one.

My only complaint so far (only 1 hour into the game) is that the facial animations seem mechanical and very outdated. It can be distracting. I like everything else about the game though.

I agree 100%
One of the best games I've played in quite a while. Very rarely does a sequel come close to the original but this is one of those. Great memories of the original (forget that abomination IW). Feel like I back in the "good old days"
Please, some one make us another System Shock

My only complaint is he looks too much like Mr.Anderson out of Matrix lol.....I do wish we could of customized his appearance.

I've been trying to keep the non-lethal/stealth approach, but it gets really hard when there's 4 guys right next to each other in the room. If you stun a guy from a distance, his friends will revive him, so you have to patiently wait for the perfect moment to takedown a guard while his friends are looking away and then quickly hide his body. And then repeat the process until all guards are dealt with.

Does stealth get easier with augmentations? (still have zero augments)

so i saw this on sale for $35? worth it? sounds like everyone here's been enjoying it and it stays relatively true to the original.

I wonder if hacking chance is bugged or stats are wrong?..I got to first hacking node and it was only 25% chance to be detected well got detected so logged out and tried again and did it again so same thing happened lol... so 2 attempts with 25% chance gives me 100% of being detected on both times yeah right something wrong there.

You do 2 trials and you automatically assume it's broken? If you flip a coin a few times and it comes up heads every time... do you assume it's a double headed coin?

Anyway, game is fun but it crashes if I play for a long period of time (2hours or more). I can still hear sound but it minimizes and has to be forced to quit. It's similar to what happens to some folks who play Just Cause 2 for a while. Seems the culprit is usually a factory overclocked GPU that needs to be forced back to stock speeds to be stable.

Just save before the hack attempt
- you cannot lose. Each time you try the odds are recomputed. If it get stuck, use a nuke virus.

i am on my *third* boss battle. It is really an easy game ... as a tank

Definitely. Started playing yesterday. Couldn't walk away. Amazingly well done right from the start. Excellent atmosphere, great music/action sequences, thiink I'm at least 7 hours in by now, and I'm exploring everything. Reminds me of Fallout 3/Vegas, but prettier and more serious.

I ran into the same issue, except I just kept tranquilizing them one after the other when they came to check up on people. That felt lame though, so I reloaded and timed everything "perfectly": knock-out or tranquilize one guy, drag his body away, then rinse and repeat, maybe throw in a tranquilizer plus a timed knock-out just before the guy falls asleep. Other times, I do my best to knock one or two out, then tranquilize the rest.

There are augments for cloaking, double-takedowns, etc. The double is awesome and I've used it a bunch of times. Once you get enough energy cells, you can probably take 3 or 4 people down within a few seconds if they're standing close enough.

For the record the game is fun,as to my hacking attempts I notice that its more then twice, try over 30 times but I can live with that because its a game ,as to stability well its excellent on my old 4870 card zero crashes.

Hi apoppin, nah don't like saving all the time right before hacking ,I like to play it like real life ie no second chance if you mess up.

I do use nuke virus etc.. when I really have too but save those for tough hacking areas.

Btw if the game is too easy for you then maybe try harder level next time?

Cutscenes never bothered me,maybe they done that to reduce overall size of game?

They actually increase the overall size of the game when they ship it with pre-rendered cutscenes.

I don't mind them though. Batman AA did the same thing, and it was fine.

i don't need to play it on hardcore to enjoy it; gone are those days. i have to get back to work (doing a performance evaluation of it).

AND i frigging *HATE* hacking; it must be hundreds of times .. and i'd give anything for a multi-tool. So i will damn well save where i please. Some hacking you must complete to continue. i'd hate to reload an autosave an hour back

Easy in that the maps are easy to figure out - unlike the original. And with those glowing yellow objects you have to interact with, the path forward is easy to find. The maps are smaller and you don't feel like you are running back and forth with a laundry-list of unrelated quests.

Isn't that a good thing though? Would you rather get lost and spend hours trying to find the correct vent to sneak through? That kind of kills the momentum of the game from a story-telling point of view.

I play DE for exploring and storyline, combat I don't mind since I mix that up with stealth and killing.

I pre-ordered the game and have the automatic unlocking device, not tried it yet.

I don't mind hacking its just a bit time consuming which can be an issue for some people.

so, thinking back to all of the cries and ranting and rage 3 or so months ago that this games was so clearly ruined by consolitis or whatever...would you guys now say that the pre-rage is founded?

lol you could probably max out 2 instances of the game running. It's really not that demanding.

That's a relief. I was starting to get worried about the new games. I was looking at BF3 alpha benchmarks and my poor 6950 looks only barely playable for it. Hopefully it's just an issue of drivers/optimization. I'd have to get another PSU to run two 6950s.

Happy to hear about Deus Ex though, it looks super fun, and after looking at tons of youtube reviews, and your confirmation that it'll play okay, I'm going for it
