Thats pretty messed up. I know tmo is in last place but in the areas where there is tmo signal its a great service. They also have some of the best phones out and really should be in better shape than they are. I know the ATT has shook a lot of customers but the parent company is being the douche. I love tmo and have been with them for over 12 years. Hopefully the ATT thing will not happen or if it does happen hopefully they will let tmo operate as is.

No chance. AT&T has blatantly said that their purpose of acquiring T-Mobile is to cannibalize TMo towers for AT&T's network. If the deal goes through, TMo is dead.

I've read the same things that Poofy said. If the deal goes through - and it's almost certainly going to to go through - then T-Mobile will be canabalized quickly.

Man, I hate ATT. I might switch my fam plan to Sprint. I so wanted the Hercules phone too.

That's the thing... they don't even really want all of T-Mo's towers. They only want the major metropolitan (particularly NYC) towers. The rest of them they'll let rot.

Supposedly, AT&T (on paper) says they also want T-Mo's spectrum. I'm not sure how much spectrum T-Mo has in the 700MHz, 850MHz and/or 1900MHz bands, considering T-Mo uses AWS (1700/2100MHz) bands. It honestly baffles me how this acquisition does anything for AT&T other than removing a competitor that checks the market with somewhat competitive pricing.

I'm really hoping that Lightsquared, despite the GPS issues, gets the go-ahead, and someone extremely disruptive (Google maybe) manages to shake up the market and knock AT&T/VZW on their asses.

AT&T needs to DIAF. I blame iPhone owners for providing the funding for this nonsense.

I hope this doesn't give AT&T ammunition to use to push the merger through...

Don't just cling to hope. Contact the FCC and tell them you think it's a horrible idea:

http://fjallfoss.fcc.gov/ecfs/hotdocket/list

It should be the top one:
"In the Matter of applications of AT&T Inc. and Deutsche Telekom AG for consent to assign or Transfer Control of licenses and Authorizations."

Specifically:
http://fjallfoss.fcc.gov/ecfs/upload/begin?procName=11-65&filedFrom=X

It'll take less than 10 minutes and you can rest satisfied that you spoke up instead of hoping.

What will happen to TMO customers, and their phone numbers? Will TMO customers become AT&T customers? Or will they lose their service and numbers?

It's my understanding that T-Mobile customers will become AT&T customers. AT&T will eventually shut off T-Mobile frequencies completely and previous T-Mobile customers will need to buy new phones.

todays $199 and $299 phones will be free on contract in 2-3 years. totally legal to replace a phone with something that is similar in performance

it's getting cheaper and cheaper to make new phones so in 3 years at&t may just give you a free replacement phone that's better than a new phone today with no contract requirement and call it even

Wait what? ATT and give you something for free? Pass the crack brutha!
They are going to tie people into contracts with their current phones, kill the spectrum, and tell people to buy new phones or pay ETF to get out and go somewhere else.

Fact or are you assuming?

Ultimately, the killer here is the current t-mobile customers that jumped ship out of fear of t-mobile falling into ATT's hands. They effectively torpedoed any chances of T-mobile Not being bought out by ATT.

They all jumped ship, causing Deutsche Telekom to see the brand as failing and more willing to let it go.

Yeah, it's like the stock market. I will wait until I get more info before I jump ship.

I probably couldn't come close to replicating my plan $$$ with another carrier, which along with my no camera requirement doesn't have me looking forward to getting fuked by the US government.
