I enjoyed last season. The only season I didn't like at all was season 3. Can't wait for this season to start!

Same here...that doesn't happen often, but that preview gave me chills. Wonder how much of that was real and how much was Dexter imagining what he has to do..because some of it was....

i was pissed at first when it seemed like deb was going to believe it was only a one time time. Glad to see that she realizes everything.

and I think the show was renewed for at least one more season after this one.

i dunno... during the first couple seasons you knew that she would find out eventually but it never seemed like there was any way it would be a good thing

then last couple seasons she starts to get upset with how crimefighting works, so theres the first hint that she will join her brothers ways

i hope the first couple episodes break her character into the new role and the rest of the season is the two of them on mad killing sprees

So it looks like Matsuka gets stabbed, the guy from a few seasons back is going to be the bad guy (the one with the hand), Dexter kills somebody in interrogation room, and he might kill Deb...

This season looks AWESOME!!!!

I didn't really like the premiere.
I don't see how it is a tenable setup, even over the course of a season, for Deb to know about Dexter's activities. It seems totally implausible to me that she would tolerate that, and despite Harry's "code," I don't believe a sociopathic serial killer would hesitate to kill even his own sister if necessary to protect himself. I assume he may be a full-blown fugitive in the final season - we shall see.
Last season was awful and I'm afraid we may be in for more of the same.

In the books...

Dexter's step children(astor and cody) follow in his footsteps. I think they're taking a parallel approach with deb.

Of course I could be totally wrong.

That would be an interesting twist. I doubt this because
Deb has always been righteous from the beginning and she never had any dark passengers (primarily because of their drunk+abusive dad) like how the kids were described in the book.
But we'll see.

I'd rather they just go ahead with that storyline from the book though.
Astor is probably like 15 or 16 now? With her teenage angst and a proper training by Dexter she would be awesome as a serial killer.

I don't believe a sociopathic serial killer would hesitate to kill even his own sister if necessary to protect himself.

But Dexter has changed throughout the show.
It's clear to see he has developed affection, a conscience, self control, etc throughout the last 6 seasons. That's part of the overall theme of the show, he's discovering that his dark passenger doesn't HAVE to be a part of him and each season brings him closer to that realization. You can even see it in the flash backs from this episode, he feels bad that Deb couldn't have that dog. In season one he even says to Brian that he can't kill Deb because he's "grown quite fond of her".

In short, given the last 6 seasons, it's not out of the realm of possibility that Dex, being a sociopathic serial killer, would not kill certain people he's developed affection for.

Don't forget season 2 with Doakes. Dexter was ready to turn himself in and tell Deb who he really was until Doakes was killed by someone else.

The ending to this season's Premier of Dexter was rather unexpected. It seems to have kicked everything into high gear as far as how Dexter will have to react to his stepsister's inquiries.

spoilerish speculation, but I don't think Dexter will survive the last season.
