Season 1 his brother died.

Season 2 a cop he knew really well died and a person he slept with died.

Season 3 his "best friend" died.

Saying that in season 4 someone close to him was going to die was not far stretched. If you had speicifically said Rita you could get some props, but due to the end of other seasons, you don't get anything. Sorry.

Anyways...I still really didn't like that ending. It kinda undid the whole season for me since Dexter was just hanging out with Arthur the whole season and even saved his life at one point. If there was nothing he could do about it that's one thing but it's like he was begging Arthur to kill someone close to him the whole season. I know there wouldn't be much suspense if he killed Arthur midway through the season, but does he have to be buddies with him the whole frackin season knowing his ritual and the danger he is to Arthur's own family? - Not to mention steering the cops the wrong way giving Arthur a lot more time. Also seemed like they would of paired up the boy Arthur kidnapped with a sketch artist long ago to get an idea of what Trinity looks like. I don't know...I liked all the previous seasons a lot but this one turned out lame.

That was my main beef with the Rita death. Dexter spent the entire season trying to better himself for Rita only to have it end that way. Over half the season was all about Dexter learning how to act normal and then it is just all undone.

well, this year we got a tease ~august 20th, then the episode 2 was ~october 4th, so i would expect somewhere around the same in 2010....so about 8-9mos

yes, his kill to episode ratio seems to be going down. damn family getting in his way, but that "problem" has been taken care of for him.

so, how did he mess w/ the car that trinity was in? was he in the trunk when trinity was killing rita @ dexter's home? or is that the time frame where dexter was at trinity's home when the search warrant was served?

rita hasn't been much of a asset since they stopped any nudity w/ her, imho.

thinking i will go back and watch the whole season to put everything together

I can't stand the tension in dexter. When i got seasons 1 2 & 3 I had to get online a read WTF happens sometime through the series or even just go ahead and watch last episode before finishing others in the season. I wouldn't start watching season 4 until it was done for same reason.

Watched 1 and 12 so far fill the middle later.

She was supposed to be the gay love interest for Dr. Keller on Stargate:Atlantis but that got squashed when the word came down the series was going to be cancelled.

either way, there are limits to the crazy one should expose themselves too, for self preservation purposes

Could this not sometimes accurately portray real life? lots of work done towards some goal that is suddenly wiped out?

Actually, now that I think about it, if the writers had decided to include the scene where Trinity killed Rita, that would have been far more disturbing.

I certainly didn't open this thread looking for spoilers. I didn't expect them so soon after the episode. I'm not upset though. It was inevitable that lithgow's character would end. It was interesting watching the episode with the rita knowledge. I kept looking for it to happen and it started to look like maybe I had misread or it was a false spoiler. When it finally happened at the very end, it seemed as if this event was originally unplanned and written in at the last moment.
