Hello Everyone,

First off, to those who haven't heard yet, the space shuttle Columbia was tragically lost today with all 7 members of her crew. No one knows what caused the tragedy to occur, but NASA will be investigating, of course.

Milestone Makers

ATWE bfour hits 90M folds!

ATWE GhettoFob hit 25M folds (yesterday)!

Tr3s Lunas hit 12.5M folds (yesterday)!

AppleTalking hits 5M folds!
grunter hits 4M folds!
gistech1978 hits 300K and 400K folds, after hitting 100K and 200K folds yesterday! (Welcome to the TeAm! :cool
CurtCold hit 300K folds (yesterday)!

Congrats to the milestone makers!

FoBoT: The beat goes on. 5.1M folds today and 5th. RMS still ain't worth mentioning yet.

non-FoBoT:
Top Folder: ATWE Robor with 214.1M folds and 58th!
Best RMS: JetBlack69 with an 8.54 and 11th overall (I'd seen him as high as 7th previously)!
Best Production: ATWE Robor with 3.0M folds (actually, 2.3K under 3M!) and 16th overall!

Producers Of the Day

FoBoT 5.1M
ATWE Robor 3.0M
ATWE Terrahawk 2.4M
ATWE LastKnight 1.4M
ATWE Insidious 1.1M
ATWE ReaganCRW 1.0M
ATWE cbcrus 725K

Congrats to the POD's!

TeAm Stuff

Today we hit a major milestone: 3 BILLION folds! W00t! Just 6.8 Billion more to catch up to Ars!
Great accomplishment though! We've produced a grand total of 4.0% of total production! Nice numbers considering that this team only really got going a few months back!
Let's make the next 3 billion even faster!

Daily Production: 21.4M folds which is good enough to put us into 3rd! If we want to play with the big boys, we'll have to take it up another couple of notches. We're nearly 11M back of 2nd...

We are pretty much a lock in for 3rd in terms of weekly production.

If we can maintain our current differentials (i.e. production relative to our targets' production), we could hit 3rd in just 20 weeks time!

On a day when the DF TeAm should all be happy about 3 Billion folds we're instead mourning the loss of 7 brave astronauts. What a terrible tragedy. Thoughts to friends, family, and coworkers of those lost today.

Okay... I'm trying to use dfDetect to start and stop the DF client for Windows 98 - I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong here - can any one help?

Here's my dfDetectlist.txt file:

10
1
0
1
5
C:\PROGRA~1\DISTRI~1
1

dfDetect lives in C:\Program Files\dfDetect and the DF client lives in C:\Program Files\distribfold

Any ideas anyone?
I should mention that these win98 machines use a "domain" logon and the DF client wants to quit on a logout as well as a shutdown/restart :frown:

hmm... most likely the C:\PROGRA~1\DISTRI~1 line is the problem. Should probably be C:\Program Files\distribfold. (it's case insensitive, you can type it all in caps if you like).

could you tell me what your processList.txt file looks like?

hmm... I hadn't considered the domain logout problem. I didn't even know there was domain logons for win98.

I'll have a look at that when I have the time.

processList.txt should be in the dfDetect directory.

It would probably be best for you to do the following:

1) start up DF.
2) start up dfDetect
3) Wait a minute.
4) close dfDetect.

Then take a look at processList.txt.

It should show all the running processes in the system with full paths.

BTW, Terrahawk, does logging out of the domain close the DF client?

I'll have a look at all that later on in the week... it's gonna be a busy one and I have already spent 7 hours trying to get this to work.
Oh yeah... logging out of the domain and shutting down/restarting pops up an error window that says that the application "Foldtrajlite" needs to be shut down before quitting Windows - OK to quit application, Cancel to keep application running and continue using Windows.

If you hit OK, windows hangs for a while before showing the "Program Not Responding" dialogue box with the Wait and End Task buttons.

I am also having trouble getting dfDetect to start the DF client hidden by using the registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunService (or something similar).
I am using the dfDetect - Hide thingy but it doesn't appear to start up either...

plus an unrelated problem is that these machines are running in about 30 degrees C ambient and the CPU temps a idle are 51 degrees - quite hot for a Duron 800. I tried running the screensaver client but it failed to start on 8 machines, crashed one on exit and locked the other one up solid.

A most frustrating day....:disgust:

As to the temperature observation, when DF is crunching it is running that CPU at 100%. I noticed that when I am gaming, I actually
cool down. (when gaming CPU = 46 when not gaming, but foolding CPU = 49)

ya gotta remember when you are crunching you are NOT idiling.... rather your CPU is pretty much balls to the wall!

hmm... just goes to show that these things really have to be better tested on win98 boxes than just following the API's.

when using dfDetect - RunHidden, you shouldn't see anything at (it runs the client in a non-visible console). You can check if DF is running by trying to start up DF normally. It should fail (the foldtrajlite.lock file should be present on the system).

Yup... and when it's folding, the temperatures get even higher! :Q
They have pretty lousy heatsinks and the building is a sauna, especially in summer... not an altogether friendly place for computers. Also when I installed the RAM, I was forever blowing dust out of the things and coughing and sneezing endlessly (the vacuum ain't that good)

Oh m0ti - DF doesn't start up at all - no high CPU load and no foldtrajlite.lock.
I did try using the long filename form of the path (C:\Program Files\distribfold) but that didn't work so I tried the ol' DOS short path name (as shown by a command window).

strange...

I'll set up a win98 box here when I have the time and have a look over.

btw, what was the output of processList.txt?
