Well the protein has changed over to a larger and much slower protein. Hope everybody didn't have any problems with the switchover.

Both my home machines are switched over. I became impatient and downloaded the client and installed the new protien manually, and it is running without issue.

well........... except.... For some reason, when I restart my computer (I have two here at home and they both do this) it seems like on the first re-start, DF just idles.... Then when I re-start it again, the DF client folds merrily along it's way. ???

Anyone else seeing anything like this?

none of my service installs switched on their own without a reboot

is anybody using -rt on 128MB boxes ? the client is using ~125 MB , is it faster to run with or without -rt ? i think i will run something else on those low RAM boxen until phase II

I would assume it is faster with the extra RAM, but I don't really know that. (I use the extra RAM and I am Sloooooow)

As to the rest, I believe this is just more of the same issue I was seeing on the last client (DF idling, but still memory resident so service does not get restarted)

I am getting frustrated. With Howard's refusal to address this issue in anything but the Beta, I am forced to believe there is a good chance that I am simply killing time generating results which will never even get looked at with this protien.....

I too am considering putting resources elsewhere until the Phase II comes about. I haven't made a decision yet, but some of what I love about DF seems to be missing at the moment (stable, worry-free client and meaningfull work being accomplished are what I miss)

I didn't know that this was still a problem for ya Sid.

Give dfQ a try, it's by and large stable and will take care of your problem.

The only sort of annoying bug is that the Uploader will freeze on a timeout error for uploading results back to DF. This makes it a good idea to restart the uploader every couple of hours (easy to do with a script... I can provide one for ya if I want). Other than that, the client and server sides seem to function pretty near perfectly... DF hasn't hung on me since I started using dfQ.

But yes, I agree that it's annoying. It's like we're just marking time... well, with the speed of the current protein, I'm pretty positive this will be the last one before the switch to the new algorithm (it's gonna take us, what, 1-2 months to get it done?).

well it's only kind of the same problem as before. It only seems to occur when I re-start the computer and I get the idle client. I haven't had
it go to an idle state while running yet on this protien.

I think the same thing that ferks up the dfQ on uploads is getting me on re-starts. I don't think I can dodge this one with the dfQ (but it is a very cool app. )

Please rest assured I am not considering leaving DF completely for any amount of time. I think I am just going to share my two home computers on F@H (70%) and DF (30%). joinT is gonna be smiling because when I do F@H, it's under his name.

I am here for the folding, sure. But I am also here because I enjoy this group of people and being part of TeAm DF.
