DFI Chipset Fan Upgrade

As in my sig, I've got an Ultra D and the chipset fan has just recently become much louder than everything else in my case. I'm sure there is probably a correlation with me gaming for over an hour, but I don't remember it being this loud before. When it isn't making the loud noise, I hear intermittent fan "grumbling" as if it is causing abnormal vibrations. I checked and don't see anything loose and have not messed with anything in months. At first, I figured that the neighbor turned on his skill saw out in the garage

Anyways, what is a good replacement for it? Keep in mind that my video card (currently a 7800GT but tomorrow an 8800GT when United Package Smashers brings it) is literally right over top of it as you can see in the crappy picture.

Also, I realize that a good dusting is in order (I'll take care of that tomorrow when I put the 8800GT in) but give me a break, I've got a Lian Li V2000 big as a house case and it seems to build up dust much more than any other case I have owned.

Edit to add: I am also looking up advice via Google and have found recommendations for the Evercool VC-RE but just wanted to cross reference with advice here. I know that this is an old issue but it just started happening to me.

Yeah the evercool works great and theres a tutorial on DIY Street (formerly dfi street). I upgraded mine before I sold it awhile later.

ive used the evercool on these guys.

You have the original DFI NF4 SLI-DR if im not mistaken.

I would personally invest a bit more and grab a HR-05 expecially if noise is a concern for you.

This is about the best selection of fans I've found: http://www.buyextras.com/dc12vvgahefa.html .

They also have a good selection of ordinary square small fans by Evercool et al.

I use an Evercool 70x25 on my CPU and it's great. Very quiet when turned down to about 2300 rpm with my fan controller - keeps my CPU nice and cool at that speed too.

I put an Evercool VC-RE on mine, was the easiest solution and cheap to boot, the thermalright cooler works well too but not really worth investing all those bucks in a dead platform.

evercool was cheap, but shipping would have costed more than the heatsink itself. I just happen to be passing by my local fry's yesterday, so I picked up a vantec CCB-1AC instead. a tad over $10 with tax otd.

When I took the old stock one off, the thermal tape was burnt or dried and stuck to the chipset. took me about good half hour or so to scrape it all off, but my time and trouble was worth it; much quieter now, that 7000rpm stock thingy is no good.

Both evercool and vantec are listed as 5000rpm, I am guessing they are nearly the same.
Speedfan reports a cool 48-49C reading, as opposed to eyebrow raising 67-68C it used to be.

Now I am looking for some 80mm yate loons to replace the PSU fans... is jabtech the best place to order them from?

I know of only one other place to get the 80SL and that's on eBay for ~$9.00 each...

I got two of those about a month ago (one for my HR-05 IFX and one for the side of my case). Both from Jab-tech. Ultra cheap and they didn't have any clicking or buzzing problems. So I would still say Jabtech.

As for the chipset, I still vote for the HR-05 IFX. You could easily run it passive and it natively accepts an 80mm fan (as opposed to 70 on the older HR-05).

I'm still wishing for an update to it. It doesn't work well at all on the new nvidia chipsets with integrated graphics cores (like my Biostar 7025-M2 uses a 630a chipset with a 7025 integrated graphics core) didn't mount well and I had to replace the rubber washers on the back.

Definitely don't recommend it for any integrated graphics 6xx or 7xx nvidia chipsets.

Ideally, I would want to do that too.. except I paid a whole $50 for the mobo (or less, since that was for the mobo + a stick of ram). To think I spent $10 just for that dinky fan already irks me enough, I would defintely say no for anything costing more moolah.

What Arcanedeath said.
