I think i'll wait to see how crossfire goes with the next gen card before looking into buying into their solution to SLI. I've always used ATI cards before, but I think i'm going to go with a 7800 whenever I get the money.

I won't be getting it for any silly waste of money like SLI or Crossfire either

bob661 don't step over the line - I know what Zebo means but I think is slightly overrating Soundstorm certainly outside of using SPDIF which alot of people will have to - low CPU utilisation but mediocre sound.

The only downside I see to crossfire is that when it comes time to sell, the crossfire card will likely loose its value much faster than a second SLI card being that they can be used on any PCIe motherboard.

I thought Crossfire can only be used on an xpress200 chipset?

According to what I've read, you are correct. let me see if I can dig something up.

EDIT: I might be wrong here. I found something that says it would work on NF4 boards but I had to google cache the link.

hmm, so it says it can be used on any board with 2 PCI-E x16, but is preferred with xpress200. Hopefully some website will test this out and compare differences with using xpress200 and nforce.

actually i dont need SLI or crossfire. too expensive.
call me when two gpu`s give like 150% performance compared to a single card solution. i mean whats the point, paying for two cards but performance will increase only like 60-70%?

D00d, that RAM layout is simply awesome!

I am not interested in Crossfire at all, but if they release a non-XFire version with that layout...simply wicked.

The RAM should sit quite well with the Zalman 9500 LED heatsink and P180 case.

The air coming off the 9500 should pass over the RAM bits but combined with air movement from the 120mm case fans ad that that air movement will cause low temp air (ie ambient and not from the CPU) to be drawn over the RAM and cool it.

It's been two months and no crossfire boards are on the market. Another sucessful paper launch for ATI...

And that "Crossfire-D" board looked so nice too....they kept the Karjan audio module and all (from the picture) from the nForce4 - possibly higher definition sound due to Azilla, but nevertheless a seperate entity to reduce CPU overhead.

i think everybody forgot the whole idea of crossfire! you can get an x800 anything now, and buy a master card later to get more than 1x the performance. so unlike sli, you can have shallow pockets but get a dual gpu setup

How so? The crossfire boards will likely cost as much if not more as SLI boards will. And you still have to buy two cards just like NVIDIA. And because it is a new technology, when it finally does come out there will be plenty of price gouging.

dude its not that card to calculate. lets pretend the motherboard is $150. now you buy an x850xtpe for $ 400 (round numbers). ok great. if you're like me and you don't like to sell stuff online, you have more reason to squeeze that last dollar out. by adding a master card, the master card generation performance + x850xtpe= worth the money. if you bought 6800gt's, then you already wasted your dollar. thus far without benchmarks, crossfire>sli.

That's called downgrading the performance of the superior card.

I fully agree with NV on this. If I bought a R520 and ran it at X800 speeds, that would only equal to a single GTX and/or a single R520. Just like dual 6800 GTs or Ultras from last generation perform somewhere around a single 7800GTX. This is what I call a waste. Stick to a single high end card card if you gonna mix and match different generations.

What?

If I buy an A8n-SLI for 150.00 and a 7800gt for 400 I can easily add another 7800 later.

My understanding of it is...

R520 + X800 = X800 + X800 (performance wise)

i saw at xtreme some mention of first two weeks of october for the dfi x-fire.

i'll be interested to see uts performance and features.

Ok i'm new to learning about the SLI technology, and this might be a dumb question but i don't care

Can you run....say a 6800GT PCIe on an SLI board...just one....and then add a second later??

AND

Can you do the same except with Cross fire and an ATI card PCIe??

And what is the R520 and a master card?

And when could we be expecting a release on these cross fire boards
