DFI-K6BV3+ not able to connect to LinkSys Wireless Network

I have an older AMD K63-400 CPU on a DFI K6BV3+ motherboard. This is my wifes PC and it more than meets her needs.

The problem is that I am now trying to connect it to me LinkSys 802.11g wireless network. I have 3 PC's and the other two are nForce2 motherboards, and there are no problems.

On the DFI board, the card is recognized and working properly, but will not make a connection. I called Linksys and spent an hour with there teck support, going through every available sinario. The tech could not figure out any reason that I am not getting a connection, other then maybe this board does not support PCI Busmastering, which these cards require.

I have tried this card in the other PC and it works fine. I then tried the other "working" card in this PC and got the same problem.
I still need to try the card in the other PCI slots, just to make sure that it is not an IRQ sharing issue, but I do not hold out great hope.

Could this be a PCI 1.X vs PCI 2.X issue, and if so, is there any way to update the PCI specification on an existing board?

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Try to find an old ISA 10Mb/sec. NIC. (www.pricewatch.com).

Or use Valentine day as an excuse to get her a New PC.

Or.

If you can not afford the whole cost of a New PC you can find one of the All in one board with a Celeron in it (they go for about $80) you probably will need an ATX case (CompUSA has sale on one for $19). Use the rest of the parts from her PC and you can get her going for less than $120.

Travis,

I think the problem is from IRQ steering. Please tell him to load the VIA 4 in 1 driver version 4.37 or later. One of the drivers named Mini Port IRQ routing driver should take care of his issue. Also tell him don?t use the first and the last PCI slots. They?ll share the IRQ with AGP card and USB controller.

AngryGames,

Thanks so much for checking into this for me.

Regarding the VIA 4in1 driver, I just installed the latest VIA Hyperion drivers.
Do you think that I should uninstall and back up to the 4.3's or leave it as is?

I will verify that the card is not in the first or last slot.
In fact I will try all slots until I either find one that works or verify that none work.

Thanks again,

no any driver of a version of 4.37 or later is recommended. I always recommend the latest drivers (4.51 at this time for VIA 4-in-1).

let me know (and make sure you have latest bios for your board =)

OK, I installed the very latest Hyperion 4-1 drivers, and tried the card in all PCI slots, but with no success.
This has to be a PCI issue with this motherboard, ether Bus Mastering (required for this card) is not supported, or it uses an older PCI specification that will not run this card.
I have taken out the card and installed a wired Ethernet card, which works perfectly when connoted to the network with a cable. I still need it connected wireless, as there is not cable in the room where it is used.
I have a D-Link 802.11g access point on order (Overstock.com / $48 and change, shipped). It will be here on Monday, and I will let you know how that works out.

Well, the D-Link access point did not work. It is supposed to be configurable as an access point, repeater, or extender.

I called D-Link and thay told me that, as an access point, this unit only works to make a wired router receive a wireless signal. Do all access points work only at the router end, or are there access points that work at the PC end as well?

The reason that I wanted to use an "ACCESS POINT", rather than a "BRIDGE" is that they are cheeper, and also, I want to be able to hook a laptop, or possibley another PC into it, along with the PC already in the area.

Does anyone make an "access point" that will bridge a NIC card to a wireless network, or is the "WIRELESS BRIDGE" the only way to do it?
