DFI Lanparty NFII Ultra B bootup problem

I picked up this board to replace what i thought was my blown Abit board (turned out it was the chip not the board, not relavent to this topic)

when i boot it up, 50% of the time it makes it to the Windows XP startup selector screen, (Normal, safe, safe w/ networking) no matter what it select it goes black, and within 5 seconds it reboots by itself, never getting to the Windows XP startup screen.
the other 50% of the time it hangs on the big colorful LanParty logo screen, and hangs.

Here are the specs for the system

Antec SmartPower 400W PSU
AMD XP1600+ (Aero 7 Lite cooler)
2 x 256mb Crucial PC2700
Geforce 4 MX440 64mb
80Gig WD SE HDD


BTW, all components still work fine on my old board..

if anyone has had the same problem or knows what it might be, chime in

I presume you have done a clean install of XP,anyway try the ram in 2nd and 3rd slot,I read these are the best slots recommended by DFI for maximum stability.

You can try bumping the voltage a little on the ram and relax the memory timing settings,that might help.

Yeah i did a clean install of XP in it, and the ram moved around in every possible configuration, and even down to 1 stick, and a stick froma friends comp.. raised the voltage a bit and slowed everything down as slow as slow as it could go for memory timings, and still no go..

have you run something like memtest86 to check to make sure your RAM works on this board? I know everything works on the old machine, but you know how new boards are...they are picky sometimes, and nothing is more picky than NF2 chipsets.

also clear CMOS for 30 seconds with battery out and no power. boot and see if it will make it all the way into windows. If so, go back and adjust the BIOS until it starts doing this again so you can narrow the problem down.

also try booting with just a single stick of ram, or try another stick from another machine to make sure =)

we never did get it to work (I'm the friend that was there) We used the Ram out of my system which works fine on my Nforce 1 board (asus A7N266-C) which is Kingston Valueram PC2700 cas 2.5 (runs flawless at 172fsb cas2.0 on my board). His Crucial PC2700 that he was trying to get the board to boot up with also ran fine on my board. This has been the worst board Install I've ever gone through, we both have about 4-5 hours into making it boot into window. Its almost like the board itself was having power regulation issues, we even hooked up my 480w thermaltake power supply to it and it still wouldn't go into window, just do its funny little reboot right after the windows selection screen (If it even made it that far, hung up on the DFI lanparty screen most of the time and wouldn't reach the bios screen)
