G'day .. just posting about this quirk I have with my motherboard.
I just reinstalled Windows XP, including SP2. The USB host controller must be installed afterward with the driver that is given in SP2. This, however causes a problem for my PC. After installing the "Standard Enhanced PCI to USB Host Controller", WinXP will not load until I unplug and replug my USB keyboard. I did test without a USB device (going back to PS2 mouse/kb) and even then, no USB devices plugged in, I had to plug in anything USB and unplug it for WinXP to finally boot.
Loading procedure :
Bios screen
Windows XP loading screen
then it goes all black
unplug (or in my last attempt, plug in and unplug then) USB device (usually KB)
then XP finally hits the desktop
Motherboard :
DFI Lanparty SLI-DR Expert (nForce 4 SLI)
latest nForce drivers, and bios
