Even though I'm still thinking about buying the already available Abit AT8-32, I just realized the new DFI is coming... what places should I check if I want to preorder?
So far I only found it at Tankguys for $215 which is absolutely fair - but if I preorder I don't want to bank on a single shop's availability...

It's the dearest of the lot by some margin in the UK going by pre-order price here.
Even some avowed DFI fans that I know are saying "I'm not paying that".

Yeah I remember seeing one place that had it for $340 preorder :Q
I could push $215 though. Just need to find money.

It's available at newegg for ~$220 right now. I forget the actual price at the moment.

I bought one last night when I noticed it on newegg. I had to get it because of the layout! Allows two dual slot PCI-e cards and still have 2 PCi slots open (sound card and possibly PPU). that Abit board you mentoined up there, that turns me off because of the single PCI slot availible if you go CrossFire. That's actually the reason why I decided to go with CrossFire over SLI, ture dual PCI-e X16 boards have better layouts. The dual PCI-e x16 boards for nVidia are crappy layouts.

I'm not building my PC for another two weeks but I figured I might as well pick it up now just to have it instead of waiting two weeks later and risking it be out of stock.

The thing that troubles me is the fact that NVidia bought out ULi which the LanParty UT CFX3200 (and others) uses the for the SB ULi M1575 chip and if anyone actually believes that NVidia will supply ATI with more for the future production can buy that land I have for Sale in the Fla swamps...so it looks like ATI will have to get going on refining their 600 or look elsewhere (SIS, VIA) before mass and reliable production of boards will be available...

Didn't I read somwhere that ATI are due to ship the SB600 chips in time for the ULi chip withdrawal but only for AM2?

They can't "look elsewhere" because SiS, VIA and Intel use proprietary north-south connections, not something open standard like HyperTransport.

Heh...forgot about the single chip solution ...

Still yet The ULi 1575 chip was a temporary solution until the 600 becomes ready as ATI's 450 gave lackluster performance in USB performance and ULi's USB solution in that area has alway been crippled ...

Only reason outside of ULi's sound solution I see why NVidia bought them out was to secure it's position as ULi has always been Graphics area dependent and has little to offer NVidia while ATi's smallest NB chipset was catching the OCing eyes community...

Hopefully NVidia will chose to improve it chipset with ULi's 7.1 HD Azalia audio on the AMD side of things as the NForce4 chipset does not have the necessary hooks for HD audio support no matter what type of Soundstorm speculation there has been in the past...They've already added it to the Intel's NForce4 roadmap

For those manufacturers using the ULi South Bridge, Patti Mikula, ATI Public Relations states: "ULi has committed to ATI and the manufacturers that the supply of ULi chips will not be interrupted."

ATI was unaware of the NVidia/ULi talks and as long as the SB600 chip is not delayed all will be presumably well.

eh what?
afaik ULi's USB performance is broadly comparable to nF4's ...

ULi don't have a sound solution (just a connection to a codec like everyone else) & the upcoming nVidia C55 chipset already had HD support implemented.

I think he's confusing this current 1575's fast and the older 1565's slower USB performance...

Much faster then the 1565 but still slower then NForces so Nvidia wouldn't need it and the sound solution is with the HD compatibility support as NVidia didn't have one whereas ATi has no need for it as they already have it......

yes, they did it - it was already in C55 before they bought ULi
