DFI Lanparty UT HELP!!!

Here is one for everyone.

I've been into computers for 20 years now. I've tried everything, but this part I do not know because I have never had it happen.

I have the DFI Lanparty NF3 250gb mobo.

I am using the AMD64/3200. Got everything all hooked up outside the case with the exception of HD's, CDr, and all the other happy horse ******.

Basically what is in there to make it run is RAM, CPU, HSF, video, and harnesses for power.

When I turn the switch on, HSF starts to spin, diagnostic lights are perfect, however, I do not get any post beeps and no video. Then I realize that the fan on the video card is not spinning. I said hmmmmmm. It's heating up so I know its getting power. I was wondering if CPU was bad so I decided to take it out. Turn it back on, same thing, no fan on video card spinning and no POST beeps, no video. Even took the battery out and reset the CMOS. Still didn't make a difference.

1.) Shouldn't I get a beep or a few if the CPU is not inserted. (Again, been in computers for so long, I guess you can say when I've built them in the past, nothing was wrong with them).

2.) CPU is heating up when I removed the HSF for just a few seconds. Bastard burnt the skin off my knucle and it hurts. So I know CPU is trying to do its job.

Got so fed-up, I emailed techsupport at DFI. Here is what they tell me which I think is weird but maybe some of you have heard it before.

Here is the 'official' DFI way of clearing the CMOS:
1. pull power *A/C Power from wall outlet*.
2. pull battery
3. clear cmos jumper to pins 2 and 3 for minimum of 30-60 seconds *For Real troublesome systems use 8 hours*.
4. replace battery
5. replace cmos jumper to normal position pins 1 and 2.
6. replace power *A/C Power from wall outlet*.
7. boot to bios and load optimized defaults
8. save and exit
9. boot back to bios and now you can change settings to your liking. *Is what we are trying to get to*.
The above is especially true after some unknown boot failure and after a bios flash or major component change which is the same as you have when first assembling a computer.

Look at the part about 8 hours. Does that sound bazaar? Or have any of you ever had to do this for 8 hours.

Thank you for your time, please help. It is too late to RMA the board because I had to wait to get the CPU. By the way, CPU is good, I tried it on my friends setup.

Thanks again.

I have had boards that wouldnt recover after 12 hours discharge, but miraculously came back to life after 24. I know it sounds crazy, I couldnt believe it myself at the time.

I would say 8 hours is conservative with a new build prob

Just a quick note that since the vidcard fan aint spinning, you might try plugging some other fan to the 3 pin connector (while leaving stock fan mounted) to make sure the card or agp slot isnt faulty

or try another card

Oh yea, sorry forgot to mention that. I put the card in my P4 and it worked fine both are obviously AGP 8x. but I will also try that to determine whether slot is failing.

Somebody who's been in to computers for 20 years should know better than to pull the heatsink off of the CPU and try and run it anyway...that was NOT a smart thing to do..

And you aren't going to get any beeps with the CPU removed, you can't post without a CPU period, and it's required to get the beeps.

Did you try with the bare minimums? CPU/heatsink and fan, 1 stick of ram, video card, have everything else disconnected such as hard drives, cd/dvd drives, any other PCI cards..

Typicaly the DFI boards have extra power connectors on the board, make sure all of them are connected. In addition to the 24pin ATX connector and the 4 pin 12v ATX connector, mine also has a 4 pin molex connector and a floppy connector as well. Might also help if you listed your full system specs, so we know what your working with.

What video card do you have, does it require additional power, and if so, did you try more than 1 molex connector? Also have you tried a differant PSU?

Yes I have done all the above. I know it's stupid to pull HSF off for just a few secs. At the time last night, I didn't give a rats poopie because I was so frustrated. All power needed to mobo is there. And yes, tried different PS.

thanks

I guess DFI isn't that good like they used to be, lol.

No, DFI is much better than they used to be.
Just half the time they only worked with ridiculous amounts of tweaking, etc...or so it seems...

Ya DFI boards are still great performers, just almost TOO tweakable and are sensitive to it sometimes, I just had to RMA my NF4 ultra-d for gettin a little overzealous

I let it discharge for about 18 hours and put the battery back in and made sure the jumper was on pins 1 and 2 for the clear CMOS. Fired it up and again, no POST, no video, no beeps. Very upset. DFI's site says if the DRAM light and the Standby light are both solid, the CPU is fine and there are no other problems. Im not getting this. Thanks for everyones input.

It sounds like your AGP slot could be bad, so maybe you can find a cheap PCI video card to try. I was gonna suggest trying it outside of the case, but looks like you already did.

Not really. I could easily find as many posts where users report 'problems' with Abit, Epox, Asus, etc.

Well, lets hope you didn't fry your CPU while you were at it.
