Latest Bios, Windows XP pro SP2, latest Nforce drivers....

Trying to just use the onboard sound...and nothing.

Looked the manual over, and it has no section for the onbaord audio...

Have I missed a jumper, or some small software setting?

AC97 Audio in Bios is set to "Auto", only other option there is "disable."

Device Manager looks good too.

That's the way it shows up in my NF3-250Gb mobo BIOS, too. That's normal.

What do you mean precisely? Does the NV MCP Audio (whatever it's called) show up in the listing? If it does, check to make sure that the speaker is plugged into the correct jack and that the sound is not muted.

Volume is not muted. Speakers seem jacked correctly. Standard one plug in the center jack of the upper row (It's green).

In the Device Manager, there are no yellow exclamation marks. In the "Sound, Video and Game controllers" section of the Device Manager there are:

Audio Codecs
Legacy Audio DRivers
Legacy Video Capture Devices
Media Control Devices
Nvidia Nforce Audio Codec Interface
Video Codecs

Does there need to be another Nvidia entry in this section? You mentioned "MCP Audio?"

No, that's the one I was thinking of. I just couldn't remember the name.

The next question is: are your speakers powered on? And do you have something else you can use to test the sound output with? headphones or another pair of speakers?

The speakers are powered on. No sound through headphones either.

Have you checked the NV control panel to see if the sound is configured properly? Things like muting, channel setup, etc?
