DFI NF4 Ultra-D

If you own this board, how do you like it so far? Will it work with Crucial ballistix? I can't decide between this or the Abit AN8 (not fatal1ty), so what would you choose and why?

I would get the AN8, out of the pure factor that you will have a better chance of getting it running. Plus it looks better.

I have been extemely happy with my Ultra-D. I use some basic All Components Micron G Cas3 DDR400 and it runs 100% stable. I chose the DFI for the dual 16x PCI-E slots, extreme overclocking ability, and the awesome review it got from Anand. My rig page is located in my sig. :beer:

Sure the DFI overclocks like a god, but it has been an extremely rough and frustrating time getting my computer up and running.

It was problems with tccd memory and in my opinion it is chance if you get a good board.

I think some of the boards work fine with different types of ram..

Mind wouldn't POST with my OCZ Platinum rev 2 for god's sake, after spending 1 month trying to fix it..

I had a gig of the same stuff and mine ran fine. I just couldn't justify the price difference ($160) and a whopping 500 Sandra 2005 memory bandwidth points, so I returned it for a refund.

done with OCZ 3200 VX timing acrobats and still got memtest# 5 and 6 errors, hundreds

I'm mostly happy with it. I can't get my ram to run at 200mhz right now, but I think a bios flash should clear that up.

I think most of the problems with this board are because of the bios. Once they release a new bios, many of the issues should be cleared up.

im about to take my DFI NF4 Mobo and going to use it as a frisbee...

I had zero problems w/ the DFI Ultra-D mobo, can't even boot w/ my A8N-SLI pos....

If I were you I'd get a mobo from a vendor that accepts returns. Others and myself got screwed by certain vendors that won't exchange or refund a faulty board.

So you may spend 2 -4 weeks w/out a working system..

I would look at the Chaintech VNF4 mobo, it seems to have the least problems. Also Asux is supposed to release the A8N-E which is based on the Nforce4 Ultra .

Right now I'm fighting w/ ZZF over a DOA mobo. If the 2nd mobo gives me problems then I'll put a Jhad on their a&& .

I probably will end up getting a A8n-E mobo when it comes out or another DFI Ultra-D. The reason I didn't get another Ultra-D is that I need a parallel port.. I also have a scsi & sound card that are pci.

The more time I loose w/ this crap the more I wish I'd gotten a Dual Opteron K8W, at least it would run w/out issue...

Mine worked fine out of the box (v1.25) with optimized bios settings. Using some settings recommended by Rgone over at DFI-street, I can get it to 2300mhz with the stock cooler (albeit at quite a toasty temperature).

I'm afraid to flash to another bios considering it works as is. Don't want to ruin a good thing by getting greedy.
