DFI NFORCE2 UltraII 400 mobo Hard Disk Problem

Ok Can someone help me out here.

I have a Western Digital 100gig Hard Drive.

When ever I hook this drive up to my Mobo the system just hangs on boot. I cannot acess the bios or anything. I have tried alll the jumper setting on the drive and nothing seems to fix this. However if I hook the drive up to my other system which is a MSI k2pro2 mobo it works just fine. I have also updated the bios to the newest version.

Does anyone know what I can do to fix this issue.

Try completly removing the jumper.

Yea I tried no jumpers and different cable.


However my other drives work fine.

But this one just hangs the system.


The bios flash went fine.


I just dont understand it

Evidently the DFI guy won't be back for a while due to a death in the family.

Does anything come up on the screen, or does it hang before that? If you can get into the BIOS before it attempts to access the HD, see if the drive is correctly identified in the BIOS.

With the drive disconnected, make sure the BIOS is set to auto for the HDs, and not to some other drive type.

There was an issue between certain 60G WD drives and nForce2 some time ago, but WD must have fixed that by now, and I believe it hung at the point it IDed the drive. People said WD was very interested and helpful at that time

Is the BIOS dated 7-18 (the latest) on the boot screen? It seems DFI gives all the BIOSes the same file name, so its hard to keep them straight.

Since the 100G works in another computer, maybe you could format it there and see if that allows it to work on the DFI.

Do you have another cable to try?

I apologize for not getting to helping again for a few days. Please head over to the AMDMB section that was linked. I do not like sending people to other forums but this issue has happened so many times that we have a couple important threads there, and it would be more beneficial to read all the posts there instead of me trying to work through who knows how many tricks or fixes.

Also please list your system specs so that I can have a better idea of where the problem may lie (mainly I am interested in your RAM make/model).
