sorry, no opinion on either the DFI or the Gygabyte... curious as to why the Asus is piece of crap... not disputing it, just curious.

First off,it doesn't fully support 400mhz FSB,which is suppose to. Its hell to get it to run at 400FSB. I spent a good 20 minutes carefully placing the heatsink due to Asus's bright idea of lining up the capacitors along the bottom of the socket. Its a rather small heat sink too. It refuses to work with my audigy soundcard propperly,at all. Its a known problem with this board and Asus still sells them. I get random chirping and hissing that nothing at all can solve(believe me, i tried everything). it also only supports 1.825 cpu voltage which hinders my needs.

edit: oh,yea,it hangs in the bios when my USB printer is hooked up,for whatever reason. for a good 90 seconds. if i unplug the printer, everything is peachy.

I have built several systems around the DFI LanParty using an XP2500+ and it is a rock solid and extremely feature rich board, everyone who sees mine turns around and buys one.

I'd go with the DFI LanParty. Have built systems with a couple of these and both were great.

Any opinions on the DFI NFII Ultra Infinity? This board is within my 100$ price range, and it has all the features I'll likely use: on-board SATA, 6.1, Raid 0&1.
There were a questionable number of DOAs (or shortly thereafter) reported on neweggs reviews.
I'm just really keen on this board and wanted some reassurance of it's quality/potential.

running 1800+XP w/ 512,PC2100, 40G 7200 WD w/ 2M cache(ata100),ti4200 w/128 (4XAGP)

ran into 100$ for doing a printer focus group and thought that the mobo would be the best thing to get atm given that my onboard audio died on my old shuttle, and the USB 2.0 would be quite helpfull.

Any suggestions on the best bang-for-little-buck upgrade I should do next would be appreciated

If you want to use this mobo longer then a year, I would suggest that you get the Gigabyte. DFI does not support their hardware very well, and if you are interested in installing a faster CPU in the mobo later, DFI's web site will tell you nothing. I have a DFI AD77 Infinity, and I wanted to upgrade the CPU to a 3000+, but the web site and BIOS update info was inconclusive. I emailed their support address and never received a reply.

Stick with a first tier manufacturer like ASUS, ABIT or Gigabyte.

i already ordered the DFI :\

i never upgrade cpus,i set it up and let it run til it dies. if it runs stable and lasts more than 2 years i'll be more than happy.

You gave the same reply in another thread, so I'll do the same.

The NF7-S is arguably the most feature-rich and stable nForce2 board available. If you carefully route the ATX cable it will not block your fans.

I bought one last week from Newegg and RMA'd it today. It would not run two sticks of 512mb memory stable, dual channel or single channel. This is the same memory that works fine in my other two motherboards. Using 1 stick of each would work fine, but if I put two sticks in it, Prime95 torture test would crap out in less than 3 minutes. I ended up trying a beta BIOS that's only supported by the DFI support rep on amdmb.com and finally got it stable with 2 sticks, but I found it ridiculous I would have to use a beta BIOS just to get it to work right within specs (it's a Ultra 400 board for cripes sake!). The final straw that broke this donkey's back was that I could not get my 2500+ Prime stable at 3200+ no matter what I tweaked, even though it did 3200+ fine on stock voltage on my old 8RDA+. Pretty disappointing, I'll probably pick up a NF7-S instead this week.

Maybe you should get a larger case? The DFI is a nice board, and I'm sure you'll be happy with it.
