ima ready 7 weeks ago!

The plus side...is that i will get a vista coupon after oct. 26th and save some money there.
The downside is memory that doubled in price and 7 weeks lost for gaming.

so i am gonna buy which ever Mb comes out 1st. this one ...or an asus based on the 680i.

I'm rooting for this one...because i really want the digital power M solution.

Nforce 680i is a great overclocker
1200 MHz+ memory

By Fuad Abazovic: Thursday 02 November 2006, 09:47
WE WANTED to know which is the best overclocking platform for Intel's Core 2 Duo and some people who are really into it said we should maybe wait for the Nforce 680i motherboards.

They should be the fastest for both memory and CPU overclocking and the boards should emerge in the following days.

We know these will end up faster than both Intel's high-end chipset 975X and the P965 although we know it will have a rough ride to beat RD600 from DAAMIT.

It supports three PCIe slots, two for graphic cards and one for physics, I guess they saw this one from ATI. We know that the memory can hit 1200MHz if not even higher. The boards based on it should be announced on the 8th, together with the new Geforce thingummy. µ

We will have a shoot out between the RD600, 680i, and BadAxe2 before the end of the month. RD600 is looking very solid at this point and is nearing release now. DFI has gone to great lengths on getting the board and more importantly the BIOS right. Until we have the final BIOS and NDA release I cannot talk about the performance of either board. I really wish I could as these P965 boards are starting to all look the same to me.

Thanks, that's good to hear. Can you give me an MSRP or if that's NDA too, an approximate number? I'm hoping sub 250$ US...

Best advice is wait for official reviews. They should be popping up anytime now.

from the anandtech review of the 680i evga board (from yesterday):

"We still expect ATI to release RD600 in the next few weeks "

a few weeks!?

rd600 is a mirage --ever receeding.

Not to sidetrack this thread, but, when you're at DFI, can you find out when they have plans to release their ATI RD690 board?

Thanks either way!

Here's holding out hope their miracle chipset will beat out the OC results from 680i. The nvidia chipset article made it sound like it wasn't too likely.

its funny how the ATI chipset was announced way back and yet Nvidia beat them to market. ATI is catching the AMD syndrome.

Actually, yes it is. That is exactly what is happening. I can explain it in two words: AMD, Intel.

This is an Intel chipset. Intel has been the choice for Core 2 Duo boards with its monopoly on performance chipsets, 975X and P965 (until 680i just the other day). When word came around that ATI's RD600 was going to beat the socks off of Intel's chips at their own game, Intel didn't just wait for the storm to hit. They took a little tour of Taiwan's best motherboard manufacturers' offices 'encouraging' them to abandon future RD600 plans if they knew what was best for them. The only mobo manufacturer with enough balls to stick to the their own plans was DFI.

Intel didn't want their 'future' (ATI was not AMD at the time, but their merger was official and almost complete) primary rival to have a chipset than ran Intel tech better than their own. Now that would be quite the slap in the face, wouldn't it?

When AMD finally took over ATI 100%, they diminished the engineer muscle on the project even more. Why should they alocate engineers to help design/improve/sell a rival company's product -- especially when the potential support for the chip has just been crippled?

***
... Long story short, Intel got spooked and threatened mobo manufactureres to dump the chipset. AMD knew very much that was going to hurt the chances of survival for the project and so they didn't alocate very many engineers to it. Plus, why root for the other team?

/sad face...

That's why everyone is talking about "DFI RD600" and no other board. DFI is the only, if not one of very very few (no other tier 1's unless they change their mind) left going to produce it. The sad part is that this would have been a great seller for ASUS, ABIT, MSI etc... and would have had killer performance even before 680i had it been on time... Stupid Intel blackmail ..

Unlike the Inquirer we already know the actual release date. It is under NDA but we can say the board is due to be released within six weeks.

Cosign. I've been wanting to put together an AM2 HTPC for a couple months now, but the existing mATX boards are crap. The DFI 690 looks like it could change that.

OT (sort of) JKing76- Yeah, I'd have mine hooked to my Syntax 32" LCD TV...I'd have a system with enough nuts finally to watch DVD's...cheapest Sempron or Athlon 64, a RD690/RS690 based board, and some budget DDR2 - talk about a cheap system with great upgrade potential.

I'm getting a bad feeling though about them...been too little info at all...
