Well, who couldn't see this coming, given the way that Travis a.k.a Angry a.k.a Happy conducts himself on that forum...? :Q

I used to be a frequent member on DFI-Street back when I was using Lanparty UT nF4. I haven't been there in a while though. Anyone want to give me a brief rundown of what happened?

Apparently, Travis said some not-so-nice things about his employers which caused DFI to drop him.

Dear Customer,

Thanks for your E-mail. First of all, www.dfi-street.com is owned by Mr. Travis Hill (Angry_Game). We paid him as a contractor to support our customers on his forum for years. Recently, he posted some improper message on the forum that hurts the relationship between www.dfi-street.com and DFI. That?s why we terminate the contract with him starting from 1/4/07. We?ll have another forum to support DFI M/B users later.

Thanks again

Frank Wong
DFI San Jose

It's a shame to see a such a useful resource be pulled (several members at the street helped me out with my initial build), but again, is anyone really surprised?

Angry_Games indeed.

Here's to hoping that new forum mentioned that will be coming from DFI will offer the same level of support...minus the caustic attitude.

Ironic, because I remember checking out Angry's personal site and he had pictures of people he worked with at DFI and said nothing but good things about them. Oh how things can change...

He told people that DFI had fired Jackie (the originator of the LANParty concept) & were trying to cut back on other support staff.
He also said that in his opinion the new RD600 mobo is no better than the existing Infinity 975 but trickier to tweak (far more BIOS options) & is going to require a lot more support for users due to the BIOS complexity.
Basically he said that from a support pov DFI need to get back to making boards that work out of the box for the 98% of the market that aren't extreme tweakers.
I don't disagree which is why I tend to stick to abit - yes, they may lack that last nth of speed/tweaking ability but imo they're a lot easier to live with.

I never saw any expression of "bad attitude" from Travis (Happy Games).

There was a bit of thinly-veiled exasperation sometimes because apparently, it was his personal initiative to start DFI-Street, and he paid for it year after year 100% out of his own personal pocket. So I'm on his side in thinking DFI should have paid the cost of the web board.

It's incredible to me that DFI wouldn't support that web board with a few bucks.

I gave and received plenty of help on DFI-Street.

I'd think a lot of people became DFI customers because they were reassured that they could get help there if needed.

Too bad. A wealth of good info went away.

Maybe I'll vote against DFI's poor decision by buying Abit instead of DFI for my next AM2 or Core Duo builds. And I'll encourage all my friends to do same.

He was also very vocal on DFI's lack of caring in how to fix RAID problems with the CFX3200-DR. Where ASUS, ABIT and others were able to fix issues with the ULi southbridge and the ATI 580 northbridge, DFI was not.

That sure got me to dump the CFX3200-DR and pick up a AT8 32X.

DFI is just a drop in the bucket. There are plenty of great alternatives, regardless of what the street would like you to believe......

This is bad news...

Funny I just downloaded some stuff from DFI-Street yesterday, and got some information about swapping out a failing NB fan. Lucky I did it yesterday.

There was A LOT of great information on that site. I wonder what Angry/Happy/Mr Hill allegedly said that was the last straw?

From following the thread at [Hard]Forums, looks like they are planning to open a forum for the DFI enthusiasts and have it moderated by some techs at DFI. If Street never comes back, I hope someone can get all the information posted elsewhere in an archive.

either way I still love my NF4 LP Ultra-D

but I will miss those forums, great group of very knowledgable ppl. Maybe Xtremesystems.com or overclockers.com will pick up most of the stragglers. Most dfi-street users were probably cross-posters anyway.

I think some of the posters were so jaded with DFI's products that they couldn't see the limitations, especially with the Inifinity 975X/G. But you see this on all forums that cater to a particular manufacturer (ASUS forums are really bad for this).

Overall the information was objective and the Street's OC Databases were, IMHO, the very best I've seen anywhere. Stability was stressed much more than raw speed and numbers. The veteran posters were very knowledgeable and quite helpful. I will really miss it.

All of this is somewhat interesting. The place has come and gone, and I never knew it existed, and my own DFI system board came, failed, and is gone already, while I still enjoy using Abit, Asus, and Gigabyte products. Maybe had the place been better supported so I heard about it (and DFI itself been a better consumer-conscious company), I might still have that MB.

This is completle bullsh1t that DFI would do this.

The knowledge base on DFI is huge, and it is the primary reason I bought their board in the first place. Shutting it down is the biggest mistake they could make IMO, so much so that I wont even consider buying DFI anymore without that user base which was honest, creative, and not afraid to overclock the crap out of anything.
