System Set up
DFI ULTRA LAN PARTY IIB
2 Optical Drives
2 IDE Western Digital HD
1 20 gig with Windows XP
2 80 gig with Files and No apps
1 gig of RAM
Ok this is going to sound strange, and I am at wits end with this. So I would appreciate any advice that i can get to this problem. Although i have to RMA. which i am not looking forward to. Well onto the problem at hand.
I just Got the DFI Ultra IIB lan party board and I am trying to install it into my old machine. So i unplug everything and plug everything back in get ready to boot, and I get the following Error.
PXE - E61: media test failure check cable
PXE - MOP: Exiting Nvidia Boot Agent
So I go through a flury or cable connections and cable swaps. I try round cables I try flat cables. All to no avail. So i hit google with this message and i found a thread saying that i should try and remove my jumper on my drive. Well i do that and i get a perfect boot. But here is the rub. That only works with One drive not both IDE drives. So i proceed to try various Jumper combos. I set it to cable Select, Both Master, both slave, both with no jumper, and the proper Master Slave Config. and each time the same error message when i try to use two HDD or If i try to boot one with the jumper on it.
So next I try to see if the second HDD is bad. So i go and plug that it with no jumper and the BIOS see that drive. So i know the machine can recognize the drive.
So back to google and more searched. Found that this can be cause buy BIOS errors. So i go into the BIOS and make sure that i am set to Boot Floopy, CD ROM, HDD 0. And still no dice. I disabled the Onboard LAN. And again no dice.
Next thing Flash the BIOS. So i get the latest BIOS from DFI and tried it again. Yep no dice. Still get the same problem.
Than i get a new BIOS chip from DFI cause that might be crap. Plug that into that board had to go get the niffty Extractor from Radio Shack. yep Did not work.
So in a moment of desperation last night i Yanked the DFI out and put my old MOBO which is a seriously old Gigabyte Board. and Booted up. and Both HDDs were right there for my to access.
So that is my problem. Not sure what i should do. If anyone has any ideas out there i am more than willing to listen.
oh one more thing when i have the HDD hooked up to the DFI board and i try to boot off of the CD of Windows XP i get to the decteting Hardware screen and than the screen goes blank. I have waited up to 30min to see if anything happens and it just sits there dark. One HDD and i can get thought it fine but as soon as that jumper touches that Selector no DICE. also i tried various other jumpers. So I tired the full XP install.
Any insight would be great. Thanks for all the help ahead of time.
