How do I get windows xp to renew on it's own? or do it manually without having to restart every 24 hours. Had no problem refreshing in windows me. my router allways has a connection.

can you set the lease on the router to be a shorter time? thats what i would do.

Try ipconfig /renew at the command prompt to force a lease renewal. But I don't understand quite what the problem is - manually renewing the lease shouldn't be necessary.

A DHCP client machine should automatically renew the lease at half way through the lease time. If it doesn't, something isn't working correctly. Check the system event log on the XP machine and see if you see log entries where it's trying and failing to renew its address.

So what does your setup look like? Are you getting your IP address lease from a local server machine, broadband router, or directly from your Internet Service Provider?

you really should
ipconfig /release then
ipconfig /renew it will just cut down on head acks and make sure every thing is clear. just FYI you can do ipconfif /all to view the lease info and all
